He starts by "making a small rue".

    rue
    1. to feel sorrow over; repent of; regret bitterly:
    2. to wish that (something) had never been done, taken place, etc.

Bayou, thanks for contributing again. I've enjoyed your posts here over time. Even back when I was one of those dreaded lurking 'guests' that was too chicken to register and post. :D

    Im okay with okra.

To be even more specific, its only gumbo to me if it has only seafood in it.

Well, I had a clever post planned - and then I saw the thread was really about okra... :D

Since this thread has been derailed, I'll add my thoughts on okra in gumbo.

There seems to be two different gumbos ... creole and cajun. Creole gumbo use more okra and tomato products, and is typically seafood. Cajun gumbo is traditionally meat with no okra and tomato products. The roux is also darker in cajun gumbo.

Many of us combine the best of both worlds and end up with our own version of gumbo. I only use okra in seafood gumbo. Not a fan of any tomato products in gumbo. Same goes for jambalaya.
