I have to agree with that.. I was soooo scared that zook was going to go for it, but if gators dont make it and tigers get the ball on the 10 the gator faithful would have ripped zook a new one.
LSU didn't kick your butt ... we just barely won the game with smashmouth FB ... a tough loss for FLA ... IMO, had Zook called for a Fason run on 4th and a couple of feet ... FLA wins the game and runs out the clock ... guess he had faith in the FLA dee, but LSU scored on the 2 minute drill in the first half ... So, you gotta wonder ... anyway, I guess he figured that if FLA didn't make the first ... LSU gets it in the red zone ... and wham Overall, not an easy call on 4th down ... either way you look at it
I may be wrong, but I don't think any coach (MAYBE Spurrier) goes for it on their own 10 with the game on the line.
Going for it on that last 4th and 1 (i.e., from his own 12) would have required a larger pair than any of us is capable of growing.
Going for it at that point would have been going against "the Book". Coaches who lose by going against "the Book", end up selling insurance shortly after that decision. Winning by going against "the book" gives you one more week to blow it. Remember that guy who coached here before Dinardo? Losing a game when going by "the book" allows people to think it just wasn't your night and excuse it. Just don't do it too often. GEAUX TIGERS
Awesome game. LSU could have scored more but failed to. Still our offence kicked it in to overdrive 450 yrds vs Florida 200 something.
I thought the UF punt was the right call for them to make. There's no way in hell I would have gone for it. The best they could hope for was an offside/encroachment type of penalty. The consequence of missing it on 4th down would have been much worse than punting the ball and playing D at the end of the game. Their D just failed to get it done. Clearly, UF was looking pass all the way and we basically ran it up their gut. WOW. :thumb: Anyway, thanks again Gator. I know it is hard to come in here after a loss. We have already lived that scenario with two tough losses this season, especially with the Auburn heartbreak.
