Has there ever been a more anticipated and exuberant inauguration then Obama's? Regan's would be the only one that would come close in my lifetime. I didnt vote for him but I sure hope he does well. We need it.
Kennedy in 1961 was pretty big. I think his challenges with two wars, a tanked economy, and unprecedented debt are going to hard to overcome. If he can just stop the slide, I'll be happy.
Barack Obama is, indeed, inheriting a mess. History will decide how much of the mess was George W. Bush's fault and how much was not. Regardless, Bush seems to have lost his effectiveness and credibility long ago. I thank him for his leadership in the days following September 11th, as I felt he presented a strong front when he encountered perhaps the worst disaster in American history. That was followed up four years later with the Katrina disaster, which I don't feel he handled well in any way at all. Can we all agree that we've had, as a nation, a really rough 8 years and hope that the next 4 or 8 for President Obama will be much better?
Is anyone else watching the inauguration? I love the pageantry and the whole meaning of it, the peaceful transition of power. I wonder what Obama's parents would've thought if you had told them during the 1960s that their son was going to become president one day.
Indeed. That was his best moment. He is also to be commended for the way he toppled the Taliban Government of in Afghanistan. Fast, smart with emphasis on airpower and special forces. Regretfully it was followed up poorly and left unfinished because of the Iraqi distraction. He should be further commended for establishing the two largest marine sanctuaries in the world. Huge friggin' ocean reserves in the Pacific. Bush was not a green president in any area where commercial interests were concerned, but he got way out in front of anticipated future commercial exploitation on this one and did the right thing.
People keep saying what a tough time it is for Obama to be coming in. I think that in reality it's the perfect time. The economy is in a down cycle. When it comes back up, (which it inevitably will) then Obama gets credit. The war in Iraq is finally starting to to turn. When we are able to bring the troops home, Obama will get credit. Everything negative gets to be put on the past administration while everything good gets credited to the new administration.
The worst part of the recession is ahead of us and the economy will not rebound as quickly as it crashed. People will associate the misery that is coming with the guy who is in office.
basically he said thank you for everything mr bush then turned around and said everything is phucked up and we know its that dude i just thanked.
