You know, the one thing that will get you benched at LSU is to fumble . . . so our backs don't fumble much. There is noting that inspires a player like the bench. After Clapp got two costly, stupid penalties, why not let him sit and think about it for a few drives. Boutte almost got the start in August, he can't be that much of a drop off. Hell, put him in and see if he's hungrier than Clapp. We are supposed to be deep on the O-line, but who knows because the starters play every down and their worst performances never get them benched. Nobody gets benched except a running back who fumbles. Those defensive back that keep blowing coverages need to sit a while. We need to develop depth so that we can rotate players like Bama did. And we need for those players to get a shot when the starters decide to coast. Now that the championship is off the table, lets see which seniors and juniors wanting to play in the NFL start coasting. I say put them on the bench if they do and lets see what one of the redshirts or sophomores can do.
I agree with you that the players must take some accountability. They must step up and start playing LSU football. Someone has to step up in the locker room to hold the players accountable. I agree there. I also agree that some asses should be sitting. All that said, as was mentioned in the post you quoted, a lot of this is a reflection of leadership at the top, or lack there of. LSU is ill prepared more times than not. The team comes in with zero focus. The team has shown little improvement all season and is regressing. Also it's up to Miles to bench players, but he rarely does. If I were coach a lot of those asses would have been sitting more than what they are. What scares me most is the lost of fight in LSU. The mentality of a winner has changed, this team doesn't believe it will win anymore.
What does it take to get members of the coaching staff benched? There are at least a couple that have been failing miserably at their job.
The whole reflection of leadership thing while it may true, it still doesn't prevent a player from going out there and excelling at what that player can control. That's like saying just because you are poor you can't pull yourself up by the boot straps and become successful even though the leadership in this country sucks. Blaming it 100 percent on the coaches sounds awful to close to what conservatives call "liberal thinking".
You exaggerate. LSU is ill prepared sometimes. It comes in with low focus sometimes. This is only the third back-to back loss in Miles 11 years.
