i think you forgot some quotes?

but in reference to ----"Any earthly parent wants their child to love and honor them. But we can't make them do so. They have to choose to."

but if the parent isnt there its pretty hard for the kid to love them, no? god should make himself known, really then, not by hocus pocus voodoo, and let us decide. if he exists and loves me then i want to love him back.

God makes his presence known all the time, it is the skeptiscism of man that doesn't acknowledge this. God doesn't have to prove himself, much like your boss doesn't have to prove themselves to you, but you need to prove your worth to them daily.

But this isn't the premise of my claim. Mine is that the laws we live by, are credited to the word and laws of God. So, no matter what your belief, you still adhere to his will.

that is suprising, you got me there. i dunno what he means, and that is not my impression of what he has said before. you have found quote i didnt think existed. he says that

"What I think may be abuse is labeling children with religious labels"

and clearly "atheist" is not a religious label. i dunno what he means throwing it in at the end like that.

if you ask me what my favorite cricket team is, i say i cant even name a team, i am without a favorite, just like an atheist is without religion. the label is not about what i know and believe, but what i dont. it is the opposite of a religious label. i am happy to label a child as an atheist. any other label is wrong.

as far as your poll about strong athiest, i do not agree that is clear. the option says that they are as sure god doesnt exist as jung is sure that he does exist. and they put "sure" in quotes. and how "sure" is jung?

i suspect they mean certain in a conversational sense, not a mathematical reality sense. obviously is is not possible to be certain. i think if you reminded them of that they would agree. people just arent that specific in conversation.

if you asked me if i was certain that pink jellyfish from saturn is in your back pocket, i would say i was totally certain. i would not bother mentioning that anything is possible and i cannot really know for sure what is in your pocket. but i can be so close to sure that i will not even bother mentioning my doubts.

correct. i think mostly atheists are portrayed incorrectly by believers. and as you say, there is an effort to clear up the definition.

    certainly agree.

i would argue that they are exactly as aware of god as i am. i know nothing of god. i am in the exact same position relative to believe in god that i always was. i have no idea who he is, what he is, or what he did, or if he exists. i literally couldnt know less about him. that people have told me what they believe, it hasnt helped. they didnt know anything either.

so as a non-believer, i am "serving satan". man, that is wild.

the idea that religion has a monopoly on the justification for morality is ludicrous.

you shouldnt smoke, but drinking and meeting sluts at clubs is about as good as this life gets.

well, you could be believing the wrong religion, the one god hates. pretty risky.

    yes, i would like that.

I think I understand what you mean about parents not being there. But God is always there and available. Sure, some people have more to overcome than others. Life doesn't always seem fair. An overweight and not so pretty girl will face more hardships than a slender, pretty girl. But God loves us all the same.
My Mom and Dad divorced when I was young. It caused a lot of hardships on my Mom and I. I used to joke about kicking his butt one day. Later I met him and lost that hate. Had I not met him but heard that he died, I hope that I would still have felt some sorrow but pleased that he had accepted Christ before his death. (He was a professional drunk and amateur fighter:wink:)
When I see people trying to rationalize salvation, it usually saddens me. As Martin can't understand my irrational belief, I can't understand his. Sure, I understand a certain reluctance. But I can't comprehend anyone thinking that they are on the same intellectual page with God.
And yes, I truely believe the Bible. I don't think that someone who reads it in order to dispute something will have the same things revealed to him that someone who reads to learn and worship will. EX.--The KKK used to throw out the verse about "not pulling in unequal yoke." They tried to point this as meaning that blacks and white should never mix--socially, marriagewise, or in any other manner. That particular verse is stating that a Christian and a non-Christian should not mix. The road to salvation is narrow and winding. And truthfully, many times in marriages between Christians and non-Christians, the Christian will falter before the non-Christian will convert. It "is" hard to live by faith.
I personally believe that if so very much of your life is just "great", there are no trials and tribulations, than you might ought to check out your life. If you are living a life that pleases Satan, he probably won't throw out loads of trouble on you. He already has you where he wants you. If you are trying to live for God, Satan is going to throw these trials at you trying to break you in your belief. JMO

Speaking to The Burning Bush himself would be sufficient. But a plaque of locusts . . . pillar of fire . . . any of the regular manifestations would impress the hell out of me.

Really. Of all of the religious literature in the world, the bible is unique in crafting religion in the form of telling the history of a people. There is nothing like it in the way of history, sociology, and literature in a document so ancient.
