Love how Miles "has to prove himself", and acknowledged the talent at Miles' disposal, yet Meyer is already crowned "the next Spurrier"??? This guy was right about one thing: "When you think of football, you don't think of Bowling Green and Utah" Those two schools are in two conferences that are among the weakest in the country, except for the Sun Belt. So in all fairness, I take a coach who was 28-21 at a school that had NO winning seasons before said coach took over, and was a member of one of the country's toughest conferences, as opposed to a coach that has a system that gave weakling teams fits.
Although I am not as upset as most are with the Meyer lovefest, I do believe he needs to prove himself before anything.
of course he does. the lovefest for urban is simply because he was more prominent nationally and rightfully so. the guy can coach, whats the big issue. can he coach in the sec? we will see. same goes for les. i do think its obvious that UF's deck isnt nearly as stacked as LSU's is currently. so no excuses, Les... National Champsionship or bust. :hihi: :hihi:
Tubby is a good coach, but the best in the SEC? No. My favorite part: Orgeron is ranked 12th - behind Vandy & UK's coach. :hihi: I think he rates Shula a little too low. I'm not sure that Shula is a good coach, but I don't think he's as awfull as Guilbeau fella thinks. Boston makes a good point about this guy contradicting himself, Miles has to prove himself but Meyer doesn't...? I like his descriptions of Richt & Fulmer. I always thought these two guys weren't as good as they appear to be.
Something tells me that Miles likes being challenged, and welcomes "nay sayers"... Reminds me of someone that knows you've been bad-mouthing him, yet doesn't step out of line, doesn't make a fuss or causes the situation to get worse...He just shows up, kicks your ass in the proper forum (and in this case, that's game days), smiles, and then goes home to friends and family.
This is wrong, you make an other dead on comment, deserve credit and this is the result: You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to BostonBengal again.
Here's my two cents worth: 1. Spurrier - arguably one of the greatest coaches ever in SEC, didn't forget how to coach over night 2. Fulmer - I might get blasted but Fulmer's stats speak for themselves. He has won 80% of his games, a national championship, and continually has the Vols in the SEC Championship Game, and averages 10 wins a season. 3. Tuberville - It pains me to say this because I always thought the whole "Riverboat Gambler" schtick was a cover for lack of ability. But he's proven he can recruit and coach. Never thought I'd see an SEC team go 13-0 and not be the National Champs. 4. Richt - He's raised UGA's level of play back to national prominence. But I credit Jim Donnan for bringing in a lot of that talent. 5. Miles - Took a perennial doormat in Okie State and made them very competitive in the Big 12, a BCS conference, likely one of the top 3 conferences in the country. 6. Meyer - I believe the guy is a good coach but I'm not ready to worship at the altar of Pope Urban, or believe the Urban Legend. The MAC and Mountain West are light years behind the competition level in the SEC. Still has a lot to prove IMO. 7. Nutt - Should've taken the Nebraska job. I think he's taken Arkansas to it's highest heights. Just don't see him getting the talent to Fayetteville that's needed to join the elite teams in the nation. 8. Croom - If Croom had the talent at Moo U that some other SEC schools have the Dogs would be a contender. He's a fine coach and person who will be successful eventually but likely at another school. 9. Johnson - It's Vanderbilt, where coaches go to die because of a lack of commitment from the university. Johnson is a good football coach who led Furman to a I-AA title. Think he should've waited on a better job. 10. Shula - I agree with Guilbeau on this one. Bama passed up Sly Croom for Shula. Might be a good head coach one day but I still think Bama panicked with this hire. 11. Orgeron - Ole Miss fires Cutcliffe to hire Ed Orgeron??? The only reason Bebe O is ahead of Brooks is because he hasn't coached a down yet. The Big O was a wild man as an assistant and could be because nobody gives a crap when your the D-line coach. But when your the head coach, especially in the SEC you're under a microscope everyday. His nutty antics have already made headlines in Oxford. 12. Brooks - Is it basketball season yet? This program is in bad shape and not getting better anytime soon. UK needs to find a coach like Hal Mumme who will do unorthodox things because the Cats don't have the talent to match other SEC schools.
GREAT POINT! Guilbeau has no credibility whatsoever. And putting Tuberville ahead of Spurrier. That's a gas! I do not believe Tubervile ever beat Spurrier, even once. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but Spurrier deserves the #1 ranking as COACH, only because he OWNED the SEC while at Florida, even if he's now coaching a second-rate team near the world's greatest GOLF COURSES :hihi:
