I beg to differ, he is actually referring to the fact that, at the time we went after Saban, we had to recruit him (or sell or program to him, if you wish). Now we don't. The LSU program sells itself.
Who in their right mind would say any school could get any recruit in the nation, barring maybe 4 or 5 players? Think about that. Makes no sense. Read the entire article. Recruiting players has nothing to do with any of the story.
You're right for sure, when I first read the article never did it enter my mind he was remotely referring to players. I don't see how anyone can think this, he is quite clearly talking about it being a good place to coach.
