We flounder a good bit here in mobile in the bay or around Dauphin Island i still jump sometimes when a needle fish or something bumps my legs in the dark. Here is something mobile has that only one other place in the world has its called a jubilee all the crabs, flounder, shrimp swim up on the beach it is too wierd you can just scoop them up and fill a ice chest in minutes. only seen one Mobile Bay jubilee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Well fellas....I'm taking my little shiitbiscuits (the kids) floundering tonight out of Long Beach, MS. I'll give you a report when I can.
I did lie....again. We got to the beach for the bonfire at about 6. The kids played in the water and by the time the kids grilled out, ate, played etc....it was 10pm and they racked out. I didn't even get to take them floundering.:dis: What sucks about it is the conditions were pretty darn good. Not sure if the flounders were out or not, but I suspect that they were. Oh well. Maybe next time.
flounder gigging in nc is done buy boat mostly. you just need good lights and have a idea where the fish might be EDIT: My link to my site selling lights has been removed.
Next time you go, bring a small mesh net with a long handle. Scoop up the crabs and see if they are "soft shell". My pop and I used to do that on Biloxi beach back in the 80's during the summer. We caught about dozen each night. Never had much luck with the flounder, but we always had a gig with us. Just remember to not stab the flounder that has the long tail...
haha guess ya'll weren't the only ones gigging that night. giggity giggity giggity I grew up gigging flounders also. My step dad and i would pull a pirogue behind us and we had many nights where we loaded the pirogue down with door mat sized flounder. We always went during the colder months when the waters were crystal clear....never tried going during the warmer months always heard water was cloudier during that time.
