Anyone else remember The Boogie Kings, a blue eyed soul band from the '60s. I grew up listening to them perform in the Catholic Hall in my hometown and at some clubs near the Texas border in SW Louisiana. I watched a video of GG perform four years ago and he looked and sounded like he did 55 years ago. Unfortunately musical talent like that won't be back on the scene anytime soon.
My parents listened to them a lot so by default so did I. There are Boogie Kings songs in my Playlist to this day!
GG Shin & Jerry Count Jackson and Bill Wray were the staples of my high school and college music scene. If they were playing anywhere nearby we’d go listen. Memories
My mom used to go to Signorelli's in St. Martinville. I don't know if she ever saw them there or not. I think she saw Otis there, probably Johnny Allen a few times among other of the swamp pop kings.
Ah Signorelli's. In it's heyday what a great place for music but also a place you might want to hone your fighting skills before you went there. Once had a girl pick a fight with me there. Boogie Kings were there a lot. TK Hulin and many other swamp pop and soul singers too. Johnny Winters would also show up. My wife works with Bert Miller, one of the original founders of the Boogie Kings, at KVPI the legendary swamp pop radio station in Ville Platte. Ted Broussard was a member of the Boogie Kings and his son Marc Broussard is a fabulous singer. My sister was a friend of Ernie Kdoe in NOLA. She told me she once asked him who his favorite Louisisna band was and without hesitation he said The Boogie Kings.
