again, most people, even those who care about gay rights, just want a sandwich. there are the morons contained chaos described that attempt to express political opinins by avoiding or eating chicken sandwiches, but they dont amount to much and are offset by those who will make extra trips for waffle fries to support the traditional family. and even people like me who dont agree with chick fil a but at least respect a man that says what he believes instead of always being PC.
What is the benefit to society for heterosexual marriages? I never knew that marriages were created to benefit society. I thought they were created to protect individual rights and as a public proclamation for one's love for another person.
My thoughts also....If you believe in separation of church and state, lets separate it. get the government out of sanctioning marriage. Instead of going before a judge, anybody should be able to go before any attorney and draw up a business partnership which protects everybody's rights. And further, the government should get out of the business of sanctioning marriage by giving married people tax breaks that single people aren't entitled to. While they're at it, they should also allow single people to name their roommate as a beneficiary for benefits like health care, that wives are entitled to. lots of unfair discrimination there. Marriage is sacramental and the province of faith. Cohabitation should be the province of the legal system, not any government.
He just said he believes the reproduction is a benefit to society. He is wrong but you should pay closer attention.
Marriage is of tremendous benefit to society....depressed, single people can visit their married friends and immediately start feeling a lot better about themselves...thus saving millions of $$ in the psychiatric costs of Obamacare.
So should we disolve the marriages/unions of all infertile couples or those who choose not to have children? This sounds good except I don't see the difference between the civil unions you are against and what you propose here. Would what you propose come with: tax benefits insurance benefits a claim to inheritance the right to make medical/financial decisions for a partner in one of these unions if said partner is incapacitated? Of course a homosexual couple could gather the necessary legal documents to protect the last two items but why should they have to go through the time and expense when married couples who only have to pay $25 for a marriage license get these things by default?
In a lot of states, including Louisiana those documents won't matter and I know this from experience.
And this is exactly why gay marriage (or something similar) should be recognized and available, whether it be marriage, civil union, or some kind of other legally recognized partnership like Supa suggests. If my wife can pull the plug on my life support (and probably without actually having to prove we are married), then gay couples should be afforded the same consideration. While marriage has many explicit benefits like tax breaks, and getting health insurance through your spouse, there are many implicit benefits that are just as important. If a gay couple that isn't in a legally recognized union can be denied the rights granted in an explicit and legal fashion like a will or power of attorney unless they go to court to get them enforced (or possibly overturned), then there needs to be an avenue by which they can obtain these implicit benefits without being questioned/challenged.
