I've talked to quite a few experienced gator hunters about this. I'm consistently told that going gator hunting at night is a much better advantage than being able to bait hooks during the day. In LA you can bait hooks but you must hunt during the day. In places like MS, you can go at night, but you can't bait hooks. The advantage is that the gators are EVERYWHERE at night. You can pick your gator. If you bait a hook, you must harvest the gator and have no control over the size. Have fun and enjoy your hunt, bro. I'm going to my class on Saturday. I just ordered my bangstick and we have a badass gator hunting boat that we are going on. I'll post pics!
I know the gators are plenty is even see them off the causeway in front of a restaurant on the bay called EDDS i will post some pics alsos we when we get our Gator.
I am very familiar with that area. The Blue Gill, Ed's, The Oyster House and all those restaurants on the causeway. I took a friend of mine's boat for a test drive up there and the biggest gators that I've ever seen in my life were up in there. I don't care what anyone says, LA and FLA have got NOTHING on the gators (size-wise) in the North part of the Mobile Bay.
I am sticking with my shotgun and #4 ....i made so nooses and snatch hooks...going out a couple of nights just to find some gators.
Guys, guys, way overkill. All you need is a .22. Seriously. Pop it right tween the eyes as soon as its head breaks the water when you're pulling it up.
Wow. How crazy it that! If it was already stated, I missed it. What's the reason? Oh and get to bed- I saw you just posted something.
MS State law states that you have to dispatch the alligator with either a shotgun (#6 or smaller) or a bangstick........or of course you could just dispatch it with a big rambo knife. I have no idea why that is the law, but it is.
