Well, actually, the insinuation is that the parents would be picky. No, scratch that, I'm picky, too. Girls just don't do it for me.
For Mothers Day we had ribs and chicken done on something similar to this, but made by Bayou Classic. I was in awe at how good the ribs and chicken were. Cooked them for 8 hours at about 230 degrees.
I don't like my meat steamed, so I use charcoal only. Gas is just lazy. If you want to use gas, just break out the liquid smoke and stay in the air conditioned kitchen. You'll save yourself a lot of money. I was given a gas grill once. I drug it to the street for trash collection. Chimney starters are a must. I haven't purchased lighter fluid in over a decade.
