Re: gary crowton leaving? Anybody remember noticing Les calling plays from the sideline this year? Seems like the head coach would actually have a chart in front of him and call plays from it, not communicate the plays via the headset up to the booth to Crowton. That would be inefficient. I don't buy it. Again common sense.
Re: gary crowton leaving? I don't think he has been "calling" the plays, but he has definitely been shaking off the catchers signals.
Re: gary crowton leaving? usually i'm with ya, but a head coach doesn't need a play card to affect the plays. crowton could say ok i wanna run 5 wide medium pass and miles could just say no make it an I formation run and then crowton picks the play. saban did this to fisher all the time. no doubt by now we know crowton's style well enough to discern which are his plays and which are miles.
Re: gary crowton leaving? Well, I wasn't standing next to him, but what I saw on TV including a couple of close-ups sure appeared to be a play chart.
Re: gary crowton leaving? I agree a head coach can override a call when it gets to something like a 3rd and 1 and the OC says he's going to call a play action and the HC says no, let's pound it. But on a consistent basis, the HC could not be calling in plays to the OC, or discussing plays. Play after play. And so Les Miles, as much as everyone wants to say he tried to pound the ball up the middle all 2nd half, actually called for a 40 yard kill shot by JJ to Lafell? Ok. Oh, he took over at the 7 minute mark in the 3rd quarter. Yeah, that's it. Grab onto your balls people and get a grip.
