Except for the excessive celebration after the fumble recovery. Actually I take issue with the rule more than the officials. Has there ever been a more stupid rule in the history of games?
I do agree! If they had been touting the other team are show boating it would be other story. It is a bad rule.
Game thoughts, et. al... I, too, thought that Clayton had been pushed out of bounds. That was a bad no call at a time when the correct call could have given us some momentum and could maybe have stimulated a scoring drive. Kudos to our defense who, time after time, turned back UGA when they were knocking at the door. The offense made just enough plays to give us a cahnce to win. We made big plays on both sides of the ball when it counted, and that was the difference in the game. The real good news is that I don't think we've played as well as we are capable...which means better days are still ahead. This could be a very special season, as long as we remain focused. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!! ldskule:
One thing I don't think I've seen mentioned that has to do with officiating/rules is the welcome elimination of the halo rule. There were several instances in which both teams covered punts very well and hit the return man just as he was making the catch. That's just good special teams play, and it is nice not to see a flag anymore for solid effort.
My ramblings: - I am a huge David Greene fan now. He stayed cool under pressure and took a helluva a beating but kept getting up. I just like his style and competitiveness. - Something i can't believe nobody commented on yet. On Georgia's interception, the defender ran threw Devery. How it wasn't pass intereference I don't understand. - Identifying mismatches. I can't count how many times Skyler or Devery was lined up in the slot and had a LB on him. We never took advantage of it either. Note to playbook: remember that for Dec. (hopefully we'll be there) - OL was pretty impressive. Mauck was not overly pressured. - If Craig Davis is going to play then throw him the damn ball. Why waste a redshirt year on a guy to be a decoy. - I agree Addai may be losing his starting job to Carey. Not that it matters since they both play plenty. - FG kicking is still scary as hell. - I've been asking for this play for the 2nd year now and I want to see it. Run the "bubble screen" formation. Pump to the bubble guy and hit the wide out on a fly. Guaranteed 6. - I'll give you $100 if you CAN'T tell me what play LSU is running when there are 2 TEs and nobody in the backfield. - Both teams D's are impressive. - I don't care to play Ga again this year
I would say excessive celebration is a good penality, b/c of what it is used to prevent. But right now, it is being enforced too strongly across all conferences. There needs to be a better way to seperate regular celebrating, and taunting. The problem started when the celebrations started to take on a personal (NFL style) "look at me" angle. And then grew into the intimidation of the other team. It has gotten out of control in the NFL, with all the celebrations for every single tackle and first down . . . college football is trying to prevent that. What ever happened to "do like you do it everyday"? I think we will see some changes to the rule after this year, but taunting and degrading the other team will always be penalized in college football.
