    And guess who the baseball coach was at the Academy after I retired. I got the opportunity to meet him and went to quite a few games.

    Because its an honor to be invited to the White House to meet the president, and an opportunity to set politics aside. Had I been a member of a championship team over the past 8 years, I certainly would have gone. But, to each his own.

    totally agree. Going to the White House is more about being on a national stage and receiving an honor for your accomplishment in front of all of the USA, not just the sport fan. It is not about who happens to be in office the year a team wins it.

    They should cut that shit out anyway because there is no all of the USA anymore.

    And to demonstrate that by reaching out across the divide...etc etc....be Jesse Owens in the face of Nazi Germany if you like, or stand in Tiananmen square but you should Damn well go. By disrespecting the president as a team you disrespect yourselves in my opinion and the association should quietly suggest they go especially in the light of the massacre attempt this week, hell they could wear LSU gear...
