IT was a good movie in ending IMO. Started very slow and dry. The characters seemed forced for the 1st 30 minutes.
Apparently the Greatest Generation did. That thing is seriously small. Guadalcanal. More amazing WW2 pics here. http://blogs.denverpost.com/capture...-blog-the-pacific-and-adjacent-theaters/1547/
yeah some asshole friend told me the ending when i said i heard this was a good movie. he had just seen it.
Germans in WWII had a rule, never abandon tank unless it was on fire. They had to sit and do what they could, even when disabled, but did not leave until it started burning. If you look at WWII pics, you see lots of dead tankers within 15 yards of their tanks. Getting out was very hazardous.
That is an M3 Stuart light tank. POS. Tank doctrine, basically until mid-1944 was that tanks were infantry support and not anti tank. Seems pretty pitiful, but that is why we even fielded these things. And I suppose, against a machine gun nest or something, it was not all that bad. There was a distinct lack of Panthers and Tigers in the Pacific! Oh the picture, is a John Way PR shot for sure. Little semblance to reality!
I know a lot of tankers, being an engineer we are sort of joined in a crazy union. Our guys are the same way. Especially when it's cold out. Those bastsrds are held up in there in T shirts and tennis shoes.
