There is little doubt that a turky fried in hog lard is the best you will ever eat. But short of a sure-fire heart attack, you better stick with the peanut oil.:thumb:

I'm headed out of town for T-day to eat some smoked ham with dear old mom. But a neighbor of mine is looking for a place to order a fried turkey from for pickup on Wednesday. I got a good one from Joe-D's before, but they have been out of business for a while now.

Who offers good fried turkeys in south Baton Rouge?

I think Uncle O's sells them. Better order soon, though.

I am frying two tommorow, I use whatever is avaialble. The REAL advantage to using Peanut Oil is that it doesn't burn as easy/fast, can be used alot more. So you pay for it on the front end.

six to one half dozen the other.

Also we made my turkey/fish cooker out of re-bar, a tire rim and an old water heater gas element. works great.

Got one just like it. I think they're best because they're quiet. I'm cooking 3 this morning. Had to fire up the burner at 6:45 am. The neighbors wouldn't have appreciated it much if I was using one of those loud jet burners. I can control the heat better and more evenly with the old style burner. And, the quiet is nice.

Get one like this. Whisper quiet. Mine is a 19". Heats quickly (235,000 btu) and has infinite control.
