Was thinkin' the same thing loco, but I was sitting here thinking, "what was that white boy's name ?" Thanks for saving me the search.
no, i was saying that steltz does not have enough speed to play FS. whatever, though.... you're exactly right.
he will not be the FS. he backs up Jessie and will be the strong safety. Curtis Taylor/McCray will be the FS. also, on a scary note, read this thread with bLeseur's JV quote... http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=13448&page=3
Steltz isnt the fastest guy out there, but he is very quick. He uses his intelligence to make up for ideal speed like a Landry. I feel pretty confident with our safeties. Dont get me wrong they will have to prove themselves because of who they are replacing. Landry is the best safety ever to play at LSU and Daniels had a great career himself.
Well, obviously, you never know who is going to pan out and who isn't. Also, JV was a 4 star recruit and he did play extremely well his first year but injuries slowed him down a ton. If he hadn't been hurt, who knows, he might've had a LT type career.
The easiest way for me to differentiate on the star system and success is this. If we get almost all 2/3 stars with a couple of 4 star guys thrown in we will be like an Arkansas or a Wisconsin, unless the guys don't live up to their billing then we end up like an Ole Miss or a good mid major. If we get mostly 4 and 5 stars with a few 2 and 3 stars thrown in we will be like an LSU(these past several years).
Not really sure about Daniels having a "great career". He was decent. You're exactly right about your football instincts and quickness making up for a slight lack of speed at the FS position. Plus I think Steltz definitely fits the mode of being a hard hitter, which is another attribute you love to have in a FS.
