Chronic Ingram goal line fumble just called, said he'll be waiting for you next season. It ain't about needs. It's about marketing... You can't draft an entire defense. I'd also argue that one big first round D guy will not cure their ills. Or are you one of these 12 yr plan guys? Payton's problem is he doesn't care about a balanced offense let alone the D.
Saints turned down the 32nd pick from new England for cooks. Yeah I don't care if it's 3 number ones. Loomis and Payton vs belichick has disaster written all over it.
Saints have no money to spend, it doesn't matter who they pick. It will be at least 3 years before there is even any hope. If Saints manage had ANY brains they would be stock piling picks for future years.
They were talking on the radio the other day about trading Cooks to Tennessee and swapping the Saints #11 for TN's #5 and #18, then giving the #5 & #18 and other consideration to Cleveland for their #1. Then picking Miles Garrett. Garrett could turn out to be another Von Miller
Let's not be hasty in dismissing the idea. No, this isn't basketball where 1 player can turn your team around but Garrett would make a big difference to a defense that is already looking to be at least a little better than last year. Anything less than a blockbuster deal the Saints should resist the temptation and keep Cooks. Just lock Mucky Loomis in an isolation cell on draft day to make sure he doesn't blow the pick on offense. Payton and Brees already have enough toys.
