Washington Nationals' AA team. Last I looked, he was batting about .250. Playing AA for the Nats ain't where it's at. As tirk mentioned, this guy has had his share of time on the DL. Seemed like everytime he was ready to make himself an every day player, injury or illness would hit him. He's had a tough career.
he's 31 I believe and couldnt be in a worse organization. "its time to move on". ill never forget the 40 homers he had that season nor the bomb he hit in omaha to dead center. that ball never came down. may have been the farthest one ever hit there.
MLB has really drained the top-level athletes preventing most of them from entering college. No doubt about it. Mainieri has it right. When you recruit, you recruit for the mid-level athletes. Lavel's problem was he would focus on the top-level players and ended up with not much to show for it. There is a lot of talent in the mid-level range and that is what you have to shoot for. That does not mean you don't recruit the Chad Jones, but your focus has to be on the lower eschelon of players.
I would really like to see the 11.7 scholarship limit be raised to 18 or so. That would probably help a little.
thats a myth created to explain the parity thats happened to LSU baseball. Anyone who followed the program in its lean years when bertman took over realizes he got the top talent and convinced them to eschew the draft. the ben mcdonalds, the paul byrds and the chad ogeas. top pitching is what wins as vanderbilt has done as shown with their top recruiting classes the last few years. getting no name role players is ok til fill out a roster but not to win consistently. getting top stud pitchers to attend is what builds programs. the whole shoot for lesser players is hogwash. given the mlb draft is so crazy random, you dont scratch anyone off the list to recruit unless you're sure theres zero chance of getting them. theres only so many top shelf players anyhow that blaming the fall of a program on a handful of missed players is asinine. LSU has failed in evaluating and developing talent, not attracting it.
Word. If it's not the farthest, it's in the top 3 guarranteed. I wonder if that blast is on you tube? I did find this. An LSU/CWS "Boom" video. Gave me chills. Sorry if its been posted bfore.
Fontenot played second base, Theriot was at short. Hawpe at first, Barbier at third. Cedric Harris in center, Ray Wright in right, and Jeremy something in left. I loved that team.
