Forget the QB's why did Alley Broussard not get the ball more

I think everyone is missing the fact that Oregan State stacked the line all night and had 7 or 8 people in the box most of the night. I don't think the OL had that bad of a game if you consider this... We needed to make them pay with a long pass play, but the QB's just couldn't get the ball to the open receivers downfield.

We still have a great OL, but we need to complete a few passes before we will be able to run for the rest of this season... no one will respect our passing game until they start to produce.

This is very true. It's what happened to Auburn last year. Until the opponent respects the deep ball, there will be 8-9 defenders in the box.

I think Broussard is the better running back anyway.. Thats not a knock against vincent, he is a close second, but broussard has better size and speed, he just isnt a shifty as vincent... the fact that i can say this about someone as good as vincent just shows how good our RB corps is... i say you pound the ball with broussard and bring vincent and addai in on third down to make catches and act as a change of pace.

As far as saturdays game goes, everytime LSU ran the ball to the outside i was yelling "wtf are you doing?". as hard as it is to run the ball up the gut against a stacked box, its even harder to run outside.. the linemen lock up on DL's and the linebackers run around and shut down the play... up the gut at least gives the running back some momentum to run over people... they also should have been running some play action bootlegs, allowing the qb to have a pass run option. I think this will be in the playbook against auburn, along with some option plays. The coaching staff went very vanilla on offense against OSU because they wanted to save their real gameplan for SEC play, and it almost bit them in their collective asses.

I agree that the adjustments were not made. Obviously the original game plan is to scheme to the best players and their abilities. But when the weather became a factor, I don't think the game plan wasn't adjusted enough to take advantage of the other "best" players and use their abilities, i.e. Broussard. Heck, put in the fullback and let him lead block, play some smashmouth football.

Maybe Saban should flood a practice field and let the guys go at it :yelwink2:

I'll take the win though. All the guys played their butts off until the end. We'll get over it and the QB situation will work itself out.

After watching the replay, I think we could have been effective with more play action. OSU's LBs were biting on the play action the few times we used it, but we didn't take advantage of the opportunity with either bad passes, drops, or bad reads.

The line play was bad in that several times the linemen weren't carrying out their blocks until the end, and the play calling (i.e too many running plays outside the tackles in those conditions) made the line play look worse as well. Those kind of plays that take advantage of JV's cut-back ability just couldn't work on the wet and muddy field.

As poorly as we played (and coached), everything is correctable, and we aren't as far away as some people think.

True they stacked the line and will continue to stack the line until we make them pay for it, but watching the replay in many many plays the O linemen were just plain beat in one one one blocks especially Whitworth the guy that is supposed to be a first round draft pick next year as a Jr. There is room for improvement at every player position and coaching position on the offensive side of the ball. There is just too much talent to play the way the did last week as an offensive unit and coaching staff. I expect to see a much better offensive team next week but it may take more than one week to get them ready for a real opponent.

I had trouble figuring out why Broussard wasn't more involved in the game as well. More like, I was shocked that the adjustment wasn't made when JV struggled to get outside or make his cuts. It seemed like a no brainer to go to a more straight ahead style of running. It's frustrating when something seems so obvious and you're sitting there thinking to yourself "if I can see this then I know the coaches should" but I keep faith that Saban has some underlying plan that is more complex than my tiny mortal brain can comprehend. I hope that's it! The passing game didn't do anything to take OSU out of their game plan though. They said coming in that they would stack the box and make LSU throw and that's what happened alright. It seemed like the ball was either thrown poorly or dropped on the majority of the pass plays. The bad throws upset me but the drops are what I'm most concerned about.

they are just different style runners...depends on your style offense. Saturday night, Alley was the best back for the offense they needed to run. Saban said Addai will be the 3rd down back in passing situations and now his WR play my be over. So, Addai is the best catching back, Alley is the horse, JV is in between.

I like Broussard so I'll promote him from time to time. You say Broussard is a Power back and while that is true recognize that Broussard is faster.
