I saw an article a could of years ago questioning why golf courses have to be 18 holes. It proposes to build courses of fewer holes. I forgot the number but like 11 or 12 or 14 or 15 or whatever. By doing this they could utilize smaller tracts of land to increase the number of courses and make golf available to more people. Wouldn't it make more sense to build more 9 hole courses? At least that wouldn't alter the symmetry and the game. When I started playing I was 15 and played my first round at the 9 hole City Park course. Until I was in college that was the only course I played 90 % of the time. If I wanted to play 18 I played the course twice.

And if something isn't done to dial back the distances the Pros are hitting the ball it won't be long before championship traditional courses are rendered obsolete. As I wrote earlier the only recourse is to grow the rough to 9" and make the greens slicker than owl shit.

How many weekend golfers can reach par 5 greens lying 2? How many of us can drop a 9 iron shot to the perfect spot on the green for a bird? Not many.
Yes but a lot of PGA tournaments are held at country clubs where most of the year rich weekend golfers play. How many men of Augusta National can break 100? Of course the Masters is a Tradition Like No Other (I feel like THE VOICE OF GOD JOHN FACENDA should have said that)
