I don't know that proficiency in one sport necessarily makes somebody better at another. I've never been a pro at any sport but I quit playing I started to face but I still play an occasional round of golf. I'n not very good now but when I played quite a bit when I was in college I thought I didn't suck at the game. If I had taken golf as seriously as some of y'all I think I could have gotten very good at it. I do have great eye-hand coordination. I was one of the best ping pong players in the city when I played a lot when I was younger. Yet I was only an average tennis player. Go figure. A great athlete can be good at football and basketball but may or may not suck at baseball or golf. Both of those sports don't require as much athleticism. If golf did we would have never heard of John Daly. But a lot of football, basketball and baseball players play golf recreationally. How good most of them are I have no idea but Michael Jordan was pretty good but not good enough for the PGA. It's been said that if Tony Romo wanted to devote the time and practice too it he could play on the tour.
I'd go the other way keeping it focused on hitting. The golf ball isn't moving and you are ultimately hitting it with a paddle. Hitting a baseball is much harder. The sport as a whole, meh the stress in golf is between you and the course where baseball is much different. Easier to catch a pop fly than to chip over a sand trap with a short side sloping green.
Nope, drove to Tennessee for a week of golf. Just arrived in time to see the recap on Golf Central. Looks like the Irish have a reason to drink tonight. If they ever needed one. Question: Why aren't there any lawyers in Ireland? Answer: No one can pass the bar.
I thought it was a good analogy. Only played golf once - all it took for me to see that any game you shoot a PERFECT game and you’re AVERAGE. Ever think of it that way? That’s how phucked up the whole scoring premise is right off the bat (pun intended). The one time I did play was only because some college buddies went I I tagged along just to go drink beer with them- and it was a scramble.
I should have known better than anticipating an answer to a legitimate question. Some things never change.
It turned out to be a walk in the park for Lowry. No one put any pressure on him. Mr. Snail, otherwise known as JB Holmes shot an 87. I wish it would have been 100 to make Duval feel better.
I certainly wasn’t expecting any higher order thinking on your part in terms of application to connect the dots.
I've never had any issues with any part of the scoring system. Is it more unfamiliarity with the rules that leads you to think that way versus a rule that has had an impact on your game? You said you've only been once, so I doubt it's the latter. I believe over the years I've mentioned in passing one of the main reasons I choose to work the hours I do is because there aren't as many people in the offices. On the same note, golf is a game you don't have to have a partner, or company, to enjoy. That in itself separates it for me from a lot of other activities. (IE: taking the boat out and fishing...just better with two, and safer.)
