Absolutely, basically we are doing the same job our counterparts are doing on active duty. For instance, one of my jobs was as squadron operations officer in a flying squadron. The squadron commander position was filled by a reservist. Since he was not there all the time it was my job to manage the day-to-day operation of the squadron in his absence.
@COTiger what is the purpose for a handicap? Is it just for betting? Like if I'm a 9 and you're a 4 do you have to give me 5 strokes if we bet on a round?
Yes, that's one of its uses. If I think you're a sandbagger, ie logging inflated scores, you aren't getting 5 strokes. We negotiate or there's no bet.
How long has the ART position been in place? This is the first I've heard of it. It makes sense and it obviously appears to work.
Well, actually I don't know, but I joined the Reserves in 1972 and the ART program was in effect then.
Correct me if I'm wrong. You were in the ART program for roughly 25 years and flew a variety of aircraft. I assume you were stationed at several different Air Force bases during that time.
In actuality a player does not have a handicap. He has a handicap index. Each course has a slope rating which along with the player's handicap index determines what his handicap is for that particular course. Example: you may have an index of 10.6, if you are playing a course with a high slope rating (the higher the slope rating the more difficult the golf course) your course handicap could be 12. You can go on the USGA website and they have a table that will tell you what your course handicap would be for each slope rating. In addition, each USGA member golf course will have a table for each set of tees that will let you know what your course handicap would be depending on which tees you play.
Yes, started at Maxwell AFB. Flew C-7s and then we upgraded to C-103E models and just before I left we transitioned to brand new C-130H models. Left Maxwell for a staff job at 14th Air Force, at Dobbins ARB, attached for flying to a reserve C-130 squadron there. From there transferred to Scott AFB, IL flew C9s for a short time, then back to Dobbins as Sq Ops officer in C-130Hs, made 0-6 there and transferred to Westover ARB in Mass. as Air Operations Group Commander flying C-5s then transferred back to dobbins as Director of Operations at 22nd Air Force attached for flying to a reserve C-141 wing at Charleston AFB. Then retired, moved to south Alabama to get my dream job of working part time at a golf course for minimum wage.
