As I recall I shot pretty much in the mid to upper 80's, but remember we had had unbelievable weather, no wind or rain for two straight weeks. Probably never happened before or since!
One of my life's disappointments, almost 30 years in the Air force and never got to play at the Academy. Haven't played Pebble either.
I was stationed at the Academy from '72 -76. After I retired in '86 we stayed here and I kept my membership at the Academy until I was no longer able to play. Probably the most scenic and toughest course in the military. Were you a pilot?
I was visiting our satellite tracking station in CA and diverted to Pebble on the way back, They knocked 50% off the green fee and it was still expensive. On a more serious note, it was worth every penny. Shot 92 but really didn't give a shit about the score.
I shot an 89 at the Old Course. Had decent weather for early fall. I kept it out of the heather & gorse. I had one 3 putt on one of the double greens. Hit the ball very well from tee to green. Better than normal. Other wise the score might have reached triple digits.
Yea, I understand that now you have to stay a night in the Lodge to be able to play the course. Probably drop about a grand to do that.
What aircraft did you fly? My career field was logistics sustainment. Supported a wide variety of aircraft over 20 years. The F-100 in Nam was the toughest from a parts availability perspective. The Bone Yard in Arizona was a life saver.
Started as a T-37 IP, got off active duty, joined the reserves and flew C-7s, C-130Es and Hs, C-9s, C-5s and C-141s.
