In my opinion, that's not a bad way to practice. I do something similar about once a month just to work on ball contact. However, I normally limit what clubs I use if I'm playing this way (as well as the way I'm playing the nine.) Normally, I use a better ball scenario...two off the box, take the best one and drop another. Two from there, take the best, drop another. BUT, when I do this I limit the clubs I'm using. As example, when I went through nine last week I only used a 5i and up. The score was likely in the low 40's ...couldn't make the turn on a few dog legs with a 5i off the box. I love Jim's swing. It's a perfect example, although exaggerated to a large degree, of the outside to inside swing path. Freddie's is a lot smoother but you can still see the shift.
Picked up a couple of new clubs yesterday. Both 4 hybrids. I used to have a 4W that came with my set but it bit the dust yesterday and while it wasn't because I snapped it over my knee it was just as stupid. I was doing some work on the range, trying to hit a draw and I'll leave it at that. Went to get a new shaft on it and the kid behind the desk says " dude, that will cost more than this club is worth, go pick a new one from the pre-owned rack" so I now have a Ping and a Calloway because I got them for $20 each. I'll figure out which one I like better and put the other one in the garage.
When I played, I don't think hybrids existed. I had 1, 3, 4 & 5 woods in my bag. I loved that 5 wood. She was a sweetheart that I rarely mishit. Probably because I had so much confidence in it. I didn't carry a 2 iron and very rarely hit a 4 iron.
Andrew Landry from Port Neches-Groves is tied for the lead in the tour event. I would imagine he's had a bowl or two of gumbo as a kid growing up. I think they said he still lives in Groves.
Golf has some really stupid rules. Adam Schenk was penalty 2 strokes for "caddie alignment" because his caddie was behind him when he hit out of a bunker. Who in the hell would even know that's against the rules?
The pros all do. They’re schooled continuously. The rest of us not so much. However we know that we’re no to take unfair advantage by ignoring the rules. Golf is a game of honor and self oversight. Someone who cheats shows his lack of character......(cough cough) Donald Trump
Did that happen in the Tour tournament today? You will see caddies get behind the player at address. But they get out of the way before the player swings. Except for the example you cited. And FYI the rules are 100 times more simple and easy to understand than they were when I played.
Happened yesterday at the John Deere Classic. Caddie was not in the way and in no way could his location have given Schenck any advantage.
Obviously his caddy hasn't learned the new rules. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/ad...-penalty-for-violating-one-of-golfs-new-rules
