Let me tell ya something, brother. I do love my beer. But, the one time I don't drink is when I'm playing golf. It certainly has its bearing on my game. I thought it might have a lot of doglegs when I looked up the scorecard on bluegolf.com Specifically, when looking at the length of the 4 par holes. While 200 isn't that long for a 3 par, it certainly has the makings of a bogey or double if the greens are as fast as you say they are. It's not easy hitting a green from that distance especially if it's not receptive. ...as well as learning to run the ball up/in. False fronts will get you on those but I don't recall seeing a lot of those when I played some courses in OK. It does lead to another question. How many wedges are you carrying? Based on the scorecard and distances it looks like a course where you could get away dropping your longer clubs and adding to your wedges.
When I played, I carried a PW & SW. I carried 1, 3, 4 & 5 woods. I couldn't hit a long iron to save my ass.
Yeah that is always the objective. Getting pretty handy around the green so the latest tactic is to land my 2nd just short and then try to get up and down for par. Depending on where I'm at going for the green is just too damn risky because the ball could end up in another area code Yeah I figured out long ago that if I wanted to play good golf I had to save the party for after the round. No doubt about it It rained here for almost all of both May and most of June. You would think things would be softer but we've gone a few weeks without a drop and the ground is like concrete. Par 3's have always been my nemesis, I know it is in my head but it is anchored down and not going anywhere anytime soon. Give me a 200 yard par 3 or more and it just gets that much worse. One day I'll figure it out. I've actually started hitting some of my chips with a less lofted club like a 9, 8 or 7 because it will release and give me more of a run out vs. something that will get the ball up in the air and then sort of stop when I'm that close. Depends on how much green I have to work with. Right now it is all a shit show so often times I just use the damn putter and run it up there from off the green as well. Standard bag, I have a PW, AW and a 56 that is bent (slightly but I can get off of the beach with it) I used to have a little rescue 3 hybrid but it never did act right and got snapped over my thigh a couple of days ago.
Let me offer you a couple of tips from my 45 years of playing. Unfortunately I learned them too late. #1 Practice your short game and putting. Those two areas are the stroke savers. #2 Get out on the course late in the afternoon and practice hitting shots from the rough. You know as well as I that you aren't going to hit every fairway. And you will learn as I did that snapping clubs across your thigh gets expensive. Yes, I speak from experience.
You're spot on. You want to choose an iron where you can get it to the desired landing spot where the run out will get it to the hole.
@shane0911 when it comes to wedges now you're getting into the money. As I recall, with the exception of by LW, I paid $100 for three of the four I carry. I ditched a 9i several years ago and went with a 48° PW and added a 62° LW. I mention that because if I were in your shoes and the greens are running as fast as you say they are...I'm opening that LW up as if I'm on the beach. This. When I switched to the LW I must have practiced with that club two or three months before I started using it consistently on the course. I started with the wiffle balls just to get a feel for the club and its bounce and then switched. One of my practice routines was hitting the ball from my front to back yard (over the house.) A skulled shot and I'm replacing a window or siding. It put as much pressure as I could simulate on the swing, ya know? It's paid off.
If you can play 18 holes in Alabama in August without having a beer you have my respect. If I was playing in the early afternoon in the summer I would have a beer or two. Seems like I sweated them out fairly quickly. Of course I also drank a lot of water.
You know that is a good point, off the top of my head I can tell you I have about 3 or 4 clubs that are just dead weight because I never use them. I almost never hit my 4I, 5W (hybrid) I have a 4 fairway that I just started using and I like it a lot. Almost never hit my 8 or 9 and really don't use my PW that often either. Once I find my tee shot its usually either 5,6 or 7 Iron and then the gap wedge if I'm not on. I may start looking to replace a few of those with something a little more handy.
I was doing this a few years ago except I was criss crossing the street going from yard to yard. Until I skulled one into someones garage that was HOT. Had a damn Infinity Q something in there, maybe a Range Rover I don't remember but I know I didn't want to pay for anything on it. Anyway damn ball bounces around the inside of the garage for what felt like 20 min and I was about 100 yards or so from my house and was like F*&k What to do know, do I run do I fess up, did anyone see me? So instead I went to the door and rang the bell. Nice looking woman comes to the door in a towel which totally threw me off so I said, "Uh, my ball went into your garage do you mind if I retrieve it"? She said oh sure no problem. That was that, no more practicing golf in the hood.
You belong to a club and live in a neighborhood with Lexus' & Range Rovers. Life must be good. Did the driver come to attention when she opened the door?
