Yes. The answer is coaching. Not talent. Glad we dont have to mention not having enough talent anymore.
I disagree with your stating that have enough talent with respect to our defense. Our secondary talent and depth is woefully deficient. We play zone virtually 100 % of the game because we do not have anyone who can play man coverage vs. top receivers. We tried playing man coverage vs, Fla.State and our CBs got smoked. NONE of our CBs (with the possible exception of Denver Harris) is talented enough to start for any of the teams currently ranked higher than LSU. Sadly former 5 * Harris seems to have a lot of issues following rules. He was suspended multiple times in his 1 year at A&M and is, and has been unavailable (I read this as suspended) most of this season at LSU. Sage Ryan who is filling in @ CB was recruited as a safety and was playing that position at the start if this season. He may turn out to be a good safety, but he is not a top tier CB.
Where our players would play or start is not my debate. My point, is that lack of talent is not a defense for 109th ranked D. Given our talent, I think a GOOD coach could have us around 30-40ish Maybe top 50 at the worst. This is next level bad. Not "down year" bad.
actually it’s both. not sure why you seem to want it to only fall on one. are we so thin as to be 109th? no, of course not. do we objectively have even top half of the country in talent (relative to our schedule)? not in the back half for sure. and with Wingo out and Smith still looking gimpy, it’s questionable at absolute best.
Because when we get good players again I'd rather have a good coach.... Is this really that complicated? Nothing he has shown here in any form tells me he has it figured out. Regardless of the players he has. Bad players and bad coach i guess = give them more time.
