i think that because not every conference has a conference championship game, we should just look at it like a regular season game that some good teams get to have a chance to improve their SOS. i dont think its fair to emphasize it any extra, meaning use it as an "elimination" game in the sense that losing it ruins you.

otherwise its just like earning a chance to eliminate yourself that teams in conferences dont have, and thats pretty unfair.

Sourman, you have a good point. However, until all conferences have that championship game then it means nothing. That is my point. If usc would have won the puss 10 championship game, then fair enough. But since they didn't, I say we play by the rules established for this year. I don't recall the part that says, "you must win your conference championship game to participate in the BCS CG". I could have missed it, but I think not!!!!!!! If they want to put that in next year, then we'll play by that one too!

my point is that i dont think its fair to say to a team "ok this is your conference championship, it hurts you much more to lose this. this is a huge advantage to the teams who dont play conf championship games"
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't you think its already a disadvantage for OU and LSU and everyone else that has a conference championship game.

These conferences can blame thier commissioners for this by the
way, I think its really stupid to have them when others don't.

If LSU was undefeated and lost to Georgia in the SECCG, do you
think we would be playing in the Sugar bowl?

I'd bet money it would be USC

But what do you tell the teams and the fans of the past who lost
    thier conference champ games?

How many was going to play for it and didn't get the chance because they lost the same game OU did?

All I'm saying is this isn't fair.

    But

Unlike what the sooners are saying I said.

OU deserves to be #1 if they beat the #2 team in the country IMOP under the current system.

I just don't think its right because of all teams that blew it in their
    conference champ game

Well, we do know that this willl be in affect next year. You cannot go to the N.C. game if you do not win you Conference.

However, even though OU lost the conference championship game, are they still the conference champs with the better record? How will the "tweak" work under this condition?

yes, its definitely already unfair, because we had an extra opportunity to lose in the conf championship game. however, we also needed that game to pass usc in SOS.

its risky, but not always bad.

hmm, i dunno. i would hope so, because a one loss team who had only lost to georgia should have been #1 the way i see it.

surely its not fair for some conferences to have them and others. i think we can mimimize that effect by not considering them to be elimination games in the sense that you have to win them to win a national champ.

you are saying that any team that loses their conference championship should not advance to the national championship correct? but since not everybody has to play in one doesnt that make it even extra unfair?

Doughman wasn't that Tennessee's 2nd loss of the season in 2001? No way I mean NOOOO WAAAYYYYY USC deserves to be in the Big Easy over OU!!!! OU played a much much harder schedule and still had one loss. USC on the other hand played cup cakes all year long and lost to an absolutly pitiful Cal team.

LSU would not be playing in it IMOP because:

OU and USC were ranked higher than LSU in the preseason and LSU losing to Georgia in the SECCG would've put USC in the Sugar because thier sos would then be better than ours

Your right about playing in the SECCG, it could be good or bad.

    TwistedTiger,

I do agree with you however,
what I'm trying to do is show that the conference championship
means nothing in OU's case this year.

Are there any teams with the same record of past that lost thier
conference champ game that didn't make it to the big game.

If so, would that be right?

I just used Tenn as an example, maybe not a correct one

but wouldnt our SOS be identical regardless of our record? we still played the same teams.
