Same old song and dance from them. Let them continue and ignore. In not too long, they will be talking to themselves because no one will care to discuss anything will them. The ignore list works rather well for me.
Using your logic, the same could be said for all those great teams Skip coached. They had so much talent, even you could have coached them to the CWS ... well, maybe not! Who do you think recruited all this talent to LSU? Let me guess, Turtle gets all the credit and not Smoke?
So true, coaching is about 60% of the head coaches job. Smoke is damn good at what he does and many just don't want to give him any credit at all. Poor teams in the regional, anyone could coach this team to the Super, etc, etc. Only 3 teams have mad every Super Regional and Smoke has done it all 4 times, a 100% success rate, pretty darn good I'd say.
Then again, you have people on here who are spoiling for a fight, who take ANY criticism of a coach whatsoever as a calling for his head...when that's just not the case.
The only thing Smoke has yet to prove is whether or not he can win it all. Getting to Omaha is one thing, winning it all is another. Skip had that special trait called IT ... don't know what that is, but he had it! Smoke keeps putting us in a position to win it all ... that is really all I can ask of him!
But the question is: how can you be critical of a coach who is 2 wins from Omaha? But then again, they were critical of Skip in 2000 ... so consider the source!
Exactly. In no way were my posts critical of Smoke, but yet, Sfreak and SF interpreted them that way and went off in their usual way by calling people/posts moronic. Makes you wonder what it is that makes them think they are so much smarter then everybody else. This thread is about prematurely calling for a coaches head. We all agree that some of us have done it with regard to Smoke and now we observe that Ole Miss fans are prematurely calling for Bianco's head. I commented that, with regard to Smoke, we'll know in 5 years whether he is one of the best in college baseball. Why that evoked emotional responses from emotional people is unknown. I also opined that our team is so strong and talented, that we could have earned a regional APPEARANCE even if a nobody was coaching. We swept the regional and are headed for or hosting a super. Let's close this matter and get ready to enjoy this moment! I missed the entire regional.
In the grand scheme of things, it may appear difficult. However, if a breakdown in fundamentals costs this team a trip to Omaha, then I feel some criticism may be in order. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm screaming for anybody's head...on the contrary, I LIKE the job Smoke has done, under less than favorable conditions (i.e., following the legend). But to hear some people tell it, I want him fired and replaced, just because this team isn't as fundamentally sound as perhaps it should be. In any event, I have a problem with the way the SabanFans and Sportsfreaks of this board try to tell anyone who has an opinion different from their own that they're not entitled to that opinion...as if THEIRS is the only opinion that counts.
I agree with this comment. My only point is that some are quick to judge before we actually know the outcome of the season. LSU fans who have kept up with LSU Baseball understand that we didn't always play lights out during the season with Skip as the coach ... we played lights out when it counted during the postseason. And it happened again this past weekend. Playing fundamental baseball wasn't really the key to Skip's success. I remember watching some of his championship teams struggle in the field, couldn't bunt, made base running mistakes, etc. Pitching and gorilla ball made up for alot of fundamental mistakes those years. It ain't over till it's over...
