1988 ND won it under Holtz and almost repeated as champs but lost to Miami in 89.

    Way off on that one.

In looking at Notre Dame under Holtz, I found it interesting they were 6-4-1 and unranked in 1994 and yet won a birth to the Fiesta Bowl. What's up with that?

Oh yeah, they are Notre Dame, God's great gift to college football.

I seem to remember ND usually getting their a$$ handed to em at the Fiesta Bowl. They got blown out by Oregon St there just a couple years ago and Im sure they got killed in 1994 too but dont remember who they played.

The BCS wanted the Irish so bad at first that they just about handed them a BCS birth simply ofr being bowl eligible.

How many more crappy years will it take before Notre Dame's stock goes down with the media?

I don't expect them to be any better this year, and eventually, being an "independent" is going to be a big problem for them, if it isn't already.

The fact of the matter is that Notre Dame is college football's New York Yankees. You either love'em or hate'em (as i do), but they are still a big part of college football. As long as they keep their TV contract, they will get good players. The last few years, they have really been in transition, moving into the modern football age and adopting the west coast offense. Hard to run west coast when you have option players. They also havent been able to lure in a great coach because of the intimidation factor. That is probably the most high pressure job in college football.
