I don't know what to think. I don't like governmental regulation on one hand. On the other hand, there's no real free marketplace. On the Northshore there's way too many restaurants. The parish lets them all come in willy nilly. Yet at the same time, they deny business licenses to other businesses like pawn shops and transmission shops. The use a lot of tools to interfere with the free market....denial of business licenses, impact fees, zoning laws, etc. The politicians cater to the voters and if neighborhood associations don't want something, the developer has to acquiesce to another tool the governments use...payoffs. The restaurants have to pay property taxes and food trucks don't. Maybe some type of permit fee will correct that inequity. Everyone therefore goes all out to protect their special interests. The restaurant industry is pretty powerful and that's why the food trucks will have problems. They have problems now.
As long as its your restaurant you should set your own rules within legalities. Not have the govt impose laws on things they already tax and that are legal. Maybe one day someone will blow up the white house so we can start over and save this god foresaken place.
Yep, I like less government. but on this issue, I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth. Everyone wants to protect their own interests. If I owned a food truck...I'd be at that rally !!
