Batali rules. If I ever get to Seattle I'd like to go to Salumi, his parent's restaurant/deli. He did a show where he traveled through Italy and it was awesome. A friend of mine works for a well known chef in La, and has to attend a lot of food conventions. She and Emeril were waiting for an elevator, and when it opened he looked at her and said "After you, chef". He talked to her for awhile and was a really nice guy. Many chefs (and they dont have to be famous) are arrogant jerks and it's one of the reasons I never really pursued a restaurant career. Doesnt seem like the case for ol Em-he went out of his way to be polite to a fellow comrad in the kitchen field. So, Emeril is okay in my book. Giadia is okay. I call her Giardia. I dont like the way she says "cruncy"; it bugs me. She makes pretty cool stuff. I also like her show about travel. The best was Miami. After watching that I was like "I need to get some stone crab immediately" Good call on $40 a day being called-how to totally stiff someone by tipping less than 10%. I just like seeing the restaurants and towns that she visits. Paula Deen....saying I dont like her is like saying you dont like someone's grandmother...it's scary to admit. Plus, this woman is my mom- they look alike, my mom's also from Savannah, and they share the same accent (which I love) But, I just dont like her. I used to love her before she got too big and got her "party" show. Give me the old show with that yellow lab (Gertie) and I'll watch again. Her laugh bugs me, her sons bother the crap out of me (Hey, watch as I bug momma ageein...haha...look y'all, I took a bite outta this here dish...), plus-lady, you have to stop talking with your mouth full-it's gross. I also like Bourdain because he rips on Bobby Flay and Rachel Ray. He seems like the typical "been there, done that" New Yorker, but he gives a lot of interesting perspective on cooking and traveling. His show in Beruit was craaazy. There is always a new "it" person on the FN. They're big for awhile (remember Emeril's sitcom?), but it dies down. My hope beyond hope is to rid the world of Rachel Ray. I dont know if I'd go about stabbing her, but she's got to go. The thing that I love about Barefoot is that her style is very clean. She arranges things so well. I also like the way they get a close up of her chopping herbs-I love that sound (yea, I'm weird). She's a bit uppidy, but I still love my Ina. What is up with her husband never being home? It's always "Jeffery is out of town, so I'm going to cook for 5 gay guys, one is going to come over in a pink sweater vest and set the table"
I love Rachel Ray!! I'll watch her whenever she is on AND I have been getting her magazine. Paula Deen is great as well. She makes the best fattening food in the world. There is a grilled corn recipe with a mayo spread and parmasean cheese I go ga-ga for. Italian - Mario Batali. No questions. I can't stant Giada. I'm glad she lost to Mario and Rachel on Iron Chef. But I'm sure that is only because Mario bribed the judes with cocktails... I also really like: Emeril (although Rudy chewed my Rural and Rustic Cookbook) and Bobby Flay Throwdown I don't like Barefoot Contessa or Sandra Lee. They are too Martha Stewart for me.
You bite your tongue. Does this sound familiar. 1. say 3 words 2. tilt head 3. 2 words 4. raise arms 5. tilt mouth to side 6. 2 words 7. steps 2,4,5 at same time 8. bite 9. fake "ummmm" repeat for an easy dish in under thirty minutes (while doing 2,4,5)
my whole family is from southwestern south carolina near savannah, and i almost need to call them to translate paula deen. sometimes it almost sounds like british english. i talked to my dad about this today on the phone and he ignored me and started talkin about giada delaurentis' body. man, that is an accurate description of her show. one time i stumbled on to her food network documentary and it turns out she used to write our nuclear energy policy for ford and carter. she is some sort of brain genius.
