I think it looks nice, maybe a bit too much for a college stadium... But, I guess I have to face the fact the the gap between professional and collegiate athletics is growing narrower every year. It does, as one poster mentioned, remind me of Rosenblatt, especially the concourse. Man, am I ever longing to return to Omaha!!!
I like the new look, but my biggest fears were realized... The grandstand is now a mile away from home plate. Can someone tell me what is so wrong about being close to home plate? Every new stadium has the seats so far away and up high, it totally takes away from the heckling experience of the batter/umpire. It takes away from the closeness to our team as well. And also, just as I suspected, the purple seats (I assume being TAF seats) will have the area where my season tickets are now. I better get my seats in the grandstand when they open!
I was going to respond to this thread earlier but I waited until I asked the opinion of some of my friends with baseball season tickets. To me, this stadium doesn't look a whole lot different than the Box. I thought Bertman was going to survey other stadiums and take the best of all he found. There are still bleachers along the outfield on both sides. Why not complete the stadium around the outfield with formal backed seating for fan comfort. I also thought Bertman was a fan of a berm or hill behind the outfield so fans can leisurely enjoy the game laying out or having a picnic. I don't think this stadium qualifies as one of the top SEC stadiums.
The design of the new softball stadium grandstand roof beats the hell out of that steel beam, ugly-ass new Alex Box grandstand roof
