All of the signs point to him leaving, but I would hope that where the NFL scouts project him to be drafted influences his decsion. I've read from a mid second round to a third round pick. If he's projected by the NFL as a second round pick, I think he's gone. Third round & below and it's a tougher call.
Perhaps cgisclair could confirm this, but I've read (sorry, can't remember where) that one of the coaches commented on the QB's--specifically their 40 times--and it was said that, surprisingly, Flynn was the fastest of the 3.
I respectfully disagree. IMO, all signs point to him STAYING. 1. He still makes poor decisions at times and his decision to let his rocket arm lure him into false security by either taking the sack, or simply throwing the ball out of bounds (1 of his INT's vs UT was due to this--the pass intended for Dickson that was picked off at the UT 5). 2. He takes a lot of heat for not playing overly well against top competition--he will return to challenge the notion that he can't play well in big games. 3. If indeed Auburn or Arkansas win the west, dispite his high rankings in most of the LSU passing records, he'll return to actually win an SEC championship and silence the critics that say unless he does, he won't be remembered as one of LSU greatest QB's. 4. He'll likely be a higher ranked QB in next year's class with the likes of Drew Tate and Brady Quinn gone.
I agree with all of your points and personally I think he should stay. The rumors I've read says he goes.
It will be a decision he'll have to make when it comes time, but make no mistake about it - he wants to be in the NFL & feels that he's ready now.
I believe JR's in "Tyrus Thomas" mode where the question he'll ask himself is, "will my stock ever be higher?". Like you, I think he'll benefit tramendously if he returns for another season. But if not, I mean, the good thing is that while he's the clear starter while here, we DO have 2 other QB's that if JR had never come to Baton Rouge, I'd be happy with Flynn and RP. We might not be better off without JR next year, but our QB depth will still be stacked with Flynn, RP and 4-star recruit Jared Lee (who will obviously redshirt next season).
JR may go Pro, but he should stay. It would help his status and LSU's. He still needs a little polish. It depends on how bad he wants the cash. If he waits a year and doesn't get hurt, he could get a Hiesman and/or a BCS trophy for LSU. This will make his value go way up.
