I bought 4 today and 2 Rouen ducks. They're young. Any tips appreciated. I've always wanted to raise some but worried about them making a pond out of my pen.

The stuff you get into fascinates me.....spare me the sexual follow up references, why would you want to raise some ducks? It's a serious question!

I've always loved the look of drakes. Not sure if you know but male ducks (drakes) are way more colorful, beautiful, really. I've always liked ducks, wanted our living room to have the Mallard Drake motiff and before you laugh you'd be surprised what some things of that sort sell for. Old duck stamps, etc.

It's also a lot to do with the ADD/OCD thingy. I like new challenges. Get bored after something is "mastered".

Isn't this beautiful? Maybe it's just a guy thing.

I can see where you think the bird is beautiful and I've heard the term drake. I've actually been duck hunting before and heard the big speech on it's not just about killing bla bla bla, but if I wake up at 4:30a.m. to go out in some cold weather and sit in a freezin cold box I'm sorta pissed about it and I want to kill what we need to so I can get some hot coffee. I went once in September or October and nearly died from bug bites......I waited to we got back to the camp to complain though.

So how are you "mastering" these ducks? Training them to do tricks? I'm afraid of your response.......

That's neat that you hunted and even better you didn't ruin the trip by complaining.

Sept hunts = teal season and when I did hunt they were short hunts. The limit is 4 for teal season.

As to mastering, don't go complicating this. It's simply about raising them but like everything, there are always do's and don'ts.

I thought you were raising them to feed to your turtles.
