Flawed hiring PROCESS. Not flawed coach.

Jean Lafitte, thanks for inviting me to this forum.

A quick introduction, I am an LSU grad and fan who is from (and again living) in Oklahoma. I am also an Oklahoma State Fan (lots of family ties) who can't stand the OU Sooners.

I have a couple of thoughts and comments on the hiring of Les Miles. Actually I have several, but I will stick to just a couple.

    1. Les Miles gave up a chunk of the pay proposed when he was offered the job at OSU. Instead, he used that chunk of change to negotiate higher pay for assistant coaches. Their pay was big for OSU Assistants, and he got them guaranteed, long-term contracts. Something Assistants at other schools didn't have. I fully expect he will make the same commitment to getting a good staff at LSU. I know his record is not what some of ya'll want. But he will have much better resources at LSU than OSU, plus OSU has to play second fiddle to OU. While I have read a lot to compare Miles to Saban, I haven't seen much about how different the two programs are in their ability to make a coach successful.

    2. The OU leaning columnists with the Daily Oklahoman are already talking trash about LSU, the fans, and (in a nut shell) how crappy Miles is going to be treated if LSU has a one or two loss season the first few seasons. That Miles will be tarred and feathered, blah, blah. I have read some posts that play right into that. I was really hoping that fans would give Miles a chance. The guy is now the coach whether you like it or not. LSU fans can either make the guy feel at home, or make him regret his decision. Which one do you think will have the most positive impact? IMHO

Welcome to the forum Okie and thanks for the info. Sounds like Les really tries to take care of his staff as best he can and the part about taking some of his salary and spreading it to the assistants is commendable.

I was too focused on the Fulmer part to spell it right.

    So.... VOL CHE'RE

This is the last question I will post regarding Miles:

If Miles goes 28-21 with the Tigers, will you still want him?

Apres d'main ils sont pas satisfaits :laflagwav

Thing is Miles WONT go 28-21 here, personally I think he will do great here... no need to think about things we have no control over, but just know if he doesnt meet expectations in 2 years, there will be alot of angry Tigers.

Thanks for coming on over to our board.

We've got to make Coach Miles feel at home and give him plenty of support. I'm going to be patient.
