Flawed hiring PROCESS. Not flawed coach.

The most significant issue involved with keeping recruits was to hire a coach worth staying for.

The decent LSU commits are going to be targeted by many other programs.

Phil Fulmer is the first vulcher to come to mind...

With this hire we are likely to pick up the #5 RB RJ Jackson, and #1 QB Ryan Perriloux, plus Miles will have time to evaluate the situation, talk to commits and also contact others that are questioning or that have recently decommited.

Guilbeau puts it in good perspective, though he was as critical of the process as anyone:

"Feel lucky, LSU faithful that LSU got Miles and not Bobby Petrino or Houston Nutt or Jack Del Rio or R.C. Slocum. LSU has now stolen two sitting head coaches from major conferences in five years. That's pretty good.

Les Miles doesn't look great right now, but if you remember, neither did Saban five years ago."

Be honest ... were you impressed with Saban's record at MSU? When LSU announced Saban as our next Head Coach, did you stand up and cheer?

    There are no guarantees ...

    Search flawed

I agree the search was flawed. The search firm was a joke for the candidates interviewed. Why didn't we just put out a press release asking all viable candidates to call or have their agent call LSU. It would be a heck of a lot less expensive than this search firm and probably produce better results. Paying something for nothing -- The Louisiana Way. Skip looks like someone in semi-retirement only going through the motions of due diligence in his job. Getting the pick seemed more important than the process.

Nevertheless, I support Coach Miles and wish him the best of luck. Skip on the otherhand may hit his Waterloo with his next coaching decision.

I remember not knowing who Nick Saban was, but I don't ever remember feeling like we could've done better. The flip side to that is, at the time, there was no where to go but up.

    You may be right.

This very well might the best solution that anybody could have achieved under these circumstances.

You've made some good points here.

True, but who could we have hired that would have made you stand up and say that's the right guy who will keep us on top?

Romeo Crennel. (I know, I know, he's never been a head coach and doesn't have recruiting experience - blah, blah, blah)
