My vote is for The Chimes. I used to hang out there all of the time in college (so much that I think I'm on the first "Around the World" plaque hanging in there.) Their shrimp po-boys and cheese fries are great. BengalB, my husband would agree with you about paying for it one way or the other--but I have no idea what he means by that...
Bengal B just about covered all of the above-average restaurants in town. Mike Anderson's is close to campus. Ralph and Kacoo's tends to be mostly fried, and full of black pepper. Unless you are into hot, stay away. from R/Ks. I would do Sullivan's over Ruth's Chris. This Ruth's is probably the worst one I have ever been to. I love Nino's on Bluebonnet, lasagna and veal are outstanding. Make a reservation, as they only have about 12-13 tables. Another great Italian place is DiGuilio Bros (No reservations, go early so your wait is only 45-60 mins). Juban's has the best La cuisine, and closest to NO flavors. Primo's is very expensive, but is also very good. If you want a casual pizza, go to the PastTime under the Miss River Bridge. Some of the best pie you will ever eat.
Here is another thread discusing the same things: http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5691&highlight=restaurant
This is off the topic of this thread but there was a place called Bailey's on the corner of Highland Road and Lee Dr. that sold the exact same thing as Raisin' Canes. Same chicken finger sandwichs, same cole slaw and fries, even the sauce seemed exactly the same. The only difference was that Bailey's served the chicken finger sandwiches on toasted slices of regular square bread and Raisin' Canes serves them on hamburger type buns. Bailey's has been out of business for several months now but there are Raisin' Canes locations popping up all over town. It just puzzles me why Baileys failed selling the same thing as Raisn' Canes. Was it bad management or what? Anybody know?
Bailey's Yeah, Bailey's was there when I was in school and I used to go all the time. Then Cane's started that second location right across the street and I guess put them out of business. I started going to Cane's also when they started that second location because it was easier to get in/out of. It was kind of difficult to exit out of Bailey's on that corner.
Re: Bailey's Yeah, me too. If I was ever in that area, I went to Canes. Usually, I just went to the one on State St., though. Bailey's closed much earlier, too, didnt they?
i think cane's just set out to take over. they are a very profitable business. i read somewhere that they have had really astounding growth. i think baily's was just kinda chilling in the market and cane's is getting aggresive and trying to make some waves.
