Mike Slive was the coordinator for the Bowl Championship Series for '06 and '07. He sure didn't recuse himself of anything.
There was a formula. We'll still have the formula, what interests me is if the committee will follow it. NCAA could ruin a wet dream.
Slive didn't have a vote in the coaches' poll, the BCS polls, or (to our knowledge) tampered with the BCS computers. We now have a situation where people with a clear conflict of interest have a direct up-or-down vote in ultimately crowning a national champion. To put this in perspective, the basketball selection committee also has AD's and conference commissioners as members. When their school (or conference's schools) is discussed for seeding, they are not allowed to participate (supposedly). Will this happen for football? Who the hell knows.
Even HS coaches get on the phone to politic & plot when it comes to seeding time. Don't think any coach/AD, etc sits quietly with their hands under their asses.
Lobbying your congressman for a favorable vote is one thing. Sitting in the chamber and casting the vote for him is another.
Pretty sure she was second place to Goodell for the comish gig. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Jack.
All of the conferences want a representative in the meetings so that they can make sure there are no back room deals being made such as "the sec has won enough championships, let's leave them out this year".
