The first album I ever bought was the Rites of Spring self title. I was in 7th grade, so the album was about ten years old. I was very likely the only 7th grader listening to Rites of Spring.
When I was a kid, I remember buying a Metallica and Justice for All tape from a kid at school. I also remember acquiring a Guns N Roses Appetite for Destruction tape at school, too. My taste in music since then has evolved, but those are the two that I remember purchasing first (albeit on the black market).
Mine was actaully a tape single when I was 11... Guns n Roses - Civil War. Only recently did I realize the beginning quote was from Cool Hand Luke.
Bought a lot of 45's. The first was Midnight Confessions by the Grass Roots. First album I think was given to me. Probably Sly and the Family Stone.
It's too bad we didn't live next door to each other. We could've really put together some "fabulous" musical numbers!
Amen to that! Inherited most of my albums from my oldest brother. We had dozens and dozens of 45 records. Had a record player that allowed us to stack the records and one would drop after the record before it finished playing. Like this children:
Grease came out right after I got married. My wife wanted to see it but you couldn't drag me to a "musical" with a team of Clydesdales. She convinced another couple to go so I went along figuring we'd get drunk afterward. Well, I loved it and so began a love affair with musicals and live theater.
