Jimbo Fisher - not getting him. He's a FSU Gary Patterson -- not getting him. He's at TCU Please ... keep this list going -
Who would be successful as the "hypothetical" next LSU coach and who wouldn't be? It is a great unknown. Who would've hire Belichick prior to 2001 based on his head coaching record? Sean Payton wasn't exactly a household name b4 he got hired by the Saints and had no head coaching experience at any significant level. I know those are NFL examples but my point is, just because it's not a "big name" doesn't mean success can not follow. I'm not advocating firing Miles, btw. Just some food for thought on the "who do we get to be the next coach" hypothetical debate....
Mike Gundy ....Ok State ???? Stoops .... Oklahoma ??? How about Dabo Sweeney from Clemson??? Think we could lure him away from what's he's build there? What about D'Antoni from Mich State?
So then we're firing Miles and rolling the dice on an unproven coach. That's going to go over REAL well in South Louisiana. I can hear the local idiots on talk radio now... "WE HIRED WHO?"
No one is throwing a fit, just stating a fact. The sky isn't falling and nothing that happens on a football field on Saturday has any affect on my life. They are not my clients, they are not my kids, they are just a team I like to watch. With that said, the fact is, he won't beat saban again nor will he win a championship again, not in D1 football anyway. Call it what you want, we can make a bet if you'd like but it is the truth. This is the unwinnable argument. If that is the criteria then they better hope Miles lives forever and never retires because you won't find that if that is what you need. Now if you want to find a coach that had similar numbers to both miles and saban at similar programs there are a TON of them. Many of which would froth at the mouth at a chance to coach at LSU. We have been through this before and yes it is just for sake of argument, I know miles isnt' going anywhere but eventually he will. It will be downright hilarious to watch these yardbirds scramble around and tear apart every name that hits the papers.
1. Who is saying this? I said I can't wait till he leaves, on his own, not fire him 2. How was either saban or miles proven before they got here? Is that your criteria? They must be made men before they even get an interview? Good luck with that.
YES. Because this is LSU damnit. And there are plenty of coaches that would froth at the mouth for a chance to come here.
Yes, ones that are in similar positions with similar records to either of our previous two. Those guys.
