Now you know why Jimbo turned down the State job. It was a no-win situation that would only hurt his chances for getting a better job. Sherril left no talent and impending NCAA probation.

I think a good coach could have done a better job so far than Croom has.

Although I agree that it was a tough place for a coach to go in & win.

Although this seems a simple way to judge a coach based on non-subjective criteria, it completely ignores 1) preseason expectations, 2) talent level, & 3) quality of who they beat/lost to.

For instance, Bobby Johnson did a more impressive job to get to 5-6 than Fulmer, who had an absolutely horrible year for the amount of talent he had on hand at Tennessee.

Did he beat a Top-5 team on the road? Fulmer did.

True. But we aren't judging them based off of one game. We are judging them on their season.

Gator fans are going to learn the hard way that they should have rolled out a red carpet for Spurrier.

Meyer isn't going to do as well as many predict, especially as the media predicts.

With Sidney Rice, Mo Brown and Chris Smelley, Spurrier will probably beat Florida again in 2006.

They lost what was it...5-6 players to the NFL draft that were all big-time starters...Pollack, Thurman, Davis, Gibson, Brown, Greene, ext....

Not just a good job but an incredible one, imo.

He lost more than Big Ears did in terms of overall team

But he had more tested backups. Auburn replaced their guys with nobodies. The SEC already knew about Georgia's replacements. The reason they were so underrated was for 1 reason: Nobody respected DJ Shockley.

I think what Richt did was quite impressive. Any time you win the SEC it has to be considered a hell of an accomplishment. I just think he's getting a lot of credit because he did it after he was ranked 3rd in the SEC East to start the season (by most). Where the problem wasn't that he overcame what made him rank 3rd, but rather the people that did the ranking were simply wrong. That, to me, shows that his accomplishments for this season are being over-exaggerated.

    Tested backups? Huh?

When did Davis, Thurman, and Pollack suddenly let their backups play in 2002-2004? They barely had one consistent guy playing LB this year due to injuries. Had others hurt almost all year. They had to have RS Freshman Miller play and he blew to be honest when it came to angle tackling. That Tech game was hard to watch him play in.

That is laughable. UGA had more nobodies than Auburn. Greg Blue was about the only big name guy on their defense that people knew and he can't cover worth a ****.

Not sure where you get people knowing their replacements...nobody in Georgia knew who most of them were.

To be honest, I was only thinking about DJ Shockley. I thought I remembered hearing the names of the Georgia backups a few times over the years, but maybe not. Even still, besides QB, the positions that Georgia lost were not really skill position players. I'm not saying they weren't important, just that they were positions easier to replace & less "glamorous" than were Auburn's.
