the best coach RIGHT now... so throw away those records at UF, and look at the 1 win improvement from Holtz...

And how is that proven? From what has been done. So keep the records and what they have done because it proves what they can do.

He won 1 game more then Holtz with a team that had several starters thrown off, including their starting RB, best DL, and had to play numerour first-time or freshman starters.

Spurrier beating UT/UF with that ****ty team was impressive no matter how crappy either were.

thanks for putting words in my mouth, b/c never did I say it was unimpressive...

Bobby Johnson did a great job at Vandy almost making a bowl, is he #1? NO!

I would put him #2 behind Richt at this point...

You all bash Weis and say to wait for the Willingham to come out in him...

Hell, he is more proven with 3 Superbowls than Spurrier, why aren't we bashing Steve the same way?

I may be biased here b/c I can't stand the man though...

He did such a great job that they didn't make it to a bowl game.

    Terrible comparison.

Same taken Spurrier has more NC rings than Weis in the college game

I don't bash Weis. I just don't think he is god's gift to HC in the college game. His team had a patsy schedule and still lost to a bowless Michigan State team and CHOKED against USC

being 1 win away from a bowl at vandy is awesome... I don't care what you say...

Corporal Spurrier was really solid at holding on to that big lead in the Independence Bowl huh?

Getting 7 wins with that putrid team at SC is more than awesome, its miraculous. The Coots were about as down and out as any team could be, rampant with thugs and thieves. What Spurrier pulled off up there is a miracle. More than what Johnson did with a steady bunch of smart kids at Vandy.

If you could hire any SEC coach right now, who would it be?

I believe most people would choose Spurrier ... that's how you know he's the best in the league.

Too early to judge Miles and Meyer, but based on their first year, I'd have to put Miles ahead of Meyer.

I still think Fulmer is a good coach and will rebound next season.

As far as performance last season they would have to rank the coaches:

    1. Mark Richt -- SEC champs, #10 ranked team, 10-3
    2. Les Miles -- #5 ranked team, 11-2 (best record in SEC)
    3. Mike Shula -- #8 ranked team, 10-2
    4. Tommy Tuberville -- #14 ranked team, 9-3
    5. Urban Meyer -- #16 ranked team, 9-3
    6. Steve Spurrier -- 7-5
    7. Phillip Fulmer -- 5-6
    8. Bobby Johnson -- 5-6
    9. Houston Nutt -- 4-7
    10. Sylvester Croom -- 3-8
    11. Rich Brooks -- 3-8
    12. Ed Orgeron -- 3-8

As far as overall coaching ability based on the total record:

    1. Spurrier -- a National title, multiple SEC titles
    2. Fulmer -- a National title, multiple SEC titles (maybe past his prime, though)
    3. Richt -- SEC titles
    4. Tuberville -- SEC title, undefeated season
    5. Nutt -- winning record in the SEC, SEC west title
    6. Miles -- winning record at a smaller school, SEC West title
    7. Meyer -- winning record at a smaller school
    8. Shula -- losing record, ranked team
    9. Bobby Johnson -- losing record
    10. Sylvester Croom -- losing record
    11. Rich Brooks -- losing record
    12. Ed Orgeron -- losing record

This ranking is based on total performances as an SEC coach, so of course the coaches that have been here a while carry a lot more weight than the new guys - Miles & Meyer.

I still cannot understand why someone would say that Meyer did a better job than Miles this season...? I mean, can you base results on hype also?

Tubberville is a good coach who has proven himself to be very good at highering top-notch coordinators. Even after losing his bowl game, you have to appreciate the kind of season they had after losing 4 1st round draft picks. Simply amazing.

If Spurrier were just some coach, people wouldn't be on his jock about what he did with USC this season. But Spurrier is Spurrier & his past accomplishments carry a lot of weight.

I don't think what Richt did this season was particularly impressive. He whooped LSU, which he deserves credit for, but I mean as far as winning the SEC East. Yea, yea he was underdog but that was only because people were short-sited about DJ Shockley.

How Fulmer didn't drop in this guy's rankings is beyond me. This season proves that he's lost control of his program. Tennessee will never be the "power" that it was under Fulmer again.

I think Bobby Johnson is getting too much credit for Vanderbilt's rather impressive season. I think this is another case (like Brett Favre) where a very talented QB makes a small time coach look better than he really is.

Sylvester Croom has to be a huge dissapointment to everyone. Most people thought he was really going to turn that program around & I gotta tell ya - I just don't see it happening now.
