This first one is the real gem. As I noted in a previous post, they've worded the Unpatriot Act to all but eliminate the possibility of 'abuse' or 'violations'. To sweeten the deal, they then get to decide which cases actually fit that bill!

Regarding the Justice Department's internal report, it comes from a provision
within the Patriot Act itself, which authorizes the inspector general to review complaints about civil liberties and civil rights abuses involving federal personnel.

Here are but a few more that I dug up for you fellas. Be sure to discredit any source (especially the one from the Nader site), or to assert that a particular individual 'deserved' what treatment they got. Don't bother keeping in mind our basic rights and freedoms.

According to a report released on March 3 by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, "The Status of Muslim Civil Rights in the United States 2004," Muslims in the United States experienced more than 1,000 incidents of asserted harassment, violence and discriminatory treatment in 2003, a jump of 70 percent over the previous year, according to a report released by a major Islamic advocacy group.

Since last May, when the FBI admitted it had wrongly arrested Portland lawyer Brandon Mayfield following the Madrid train bombings, the Muslim convert has contended that the Patriot Act was used to gain secret entry into his home and gather personal material which was used to portray him as a Muslim militant. The Justice Department previously has denied using the Patriot Act in the Mayfield case — until now.

Cottrell has the USA Patriot Act to thank for the extra three years and four months he may serve in federal prison for that night of indiscretion. On April 18, U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner ruled that the former CalTech graduate student had engaged in "domestic terrorism" by targeting the fuel-inefficient vehicles, since his actions were seemingly meant to intimidate a civilian population, namely SUV-buyers. Cottrell's defense expected the judge to give the physics genius the mandatory minimum sentence of five years. With the sentence enhancement, Cottrell could end up wasting in prison for nearly eight and a half years.
