"President Bush is the devil in their eyes"
What a ridiculously childish thing to say.

I so wasn't going to bring the big guns out, but you have left me with no choice. http://media.brainthink.com/video_temp/bushfool-low.mpeg

And just for good measure (remember i'm keeping this to 3 just for the sake of the length of the post, there's no end to these):

    2. "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." —Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004

    7. “We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories … And we'll find more weapons as time goes on. But for those who say we haven't found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they're wrong, we found them." —Washington, D.C., May 30, 2003

    46. "Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a — you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." —Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004

i will? did you read the entire thread or just that post? if you read the thread in it's entirety, you would know that 2 VERY close friends of mine, as well as my cousin/best friend are currently stationed in and around baghdad. the story is pretty much the same with all 3...they were once ardent supporters (prior to deployment), now vigorously opposed. one of my friends, who is a platoon commander and has by far seen the most action/firefight, is without question the most vicous opponent. you should see the stuff he writes in his livejournal. he was very gung-ho before he left. he has been training for 8 years in the guard, and is in fact one step/phase/qualification from being able to go to ranger school. so he was actually pretty enthused to finally be able to put that training to use. now not only does he despise the people who got him into this mess, but also the iraqi people 'for not standing up for themselves and freeing themselves from their dictatorship'. his frustration at all of this has given him an increasingly wretched morale. of course, that is not to say that such is the case with all whom are deployed over there. i'm sure you'll tell me about all of your marine buddies that are gung-ho. it just happens to be with the 3 that i know.

in addition, i used to share an office with another civil engineer that served for 13 months in afghanistan. when he was stationed there, he said none of them had a problem being there at all. in fact, it was the same way over here. i don't know why you threw in that jive about afghanistan, i was all about that one. anyhow, he says that when they first heard bush talking about going to iraq, the general consensus was that it was an incredibly bad idea, and hoped that he was not serious. that war then started before he came back home. he said that the contempt for W within the group in which he served by the time they got back was unreal. not much has changed on his end.

by far my favorite! i even have the mpeg on my computer. hilarious, yet so sad at the same time. pood dude is up a creek without a paddle when everything he says isn't predetermined.

Okay, so 3 friends of yours hate it over there. That's fine. But they don't speak for the majority of the military. And yes, I will tell you about all of my Marine buddies who are all gung-ho - because they are. Some have seen combat, some haven't. The point is, they are ready and willing to do what they volunteered to do. They know the risks. Maybe it's just the mentality of the Marine Corps. We're proud of what we do and we know what we're doing is right - for the Iraqi people who have suffered for years AND for our brothers and sisters who didn't come home alive. Contrary to what you may think, they didn't die for nothing. When we say our job is defending freedom, it's not just our freedom, it's freedom for those who are oppressed. Because everyone deserves to be free - especially from a worthless horrible human being like Saddam Hussein.

Oh, and he despises the Iraqi people who couldn't stand up for themselves and free themselves? That's great, really. Answer me this: how could they? Sure they tried and what would happen, they and their families met untimely and horrible deaths. Saddam had such a reign of terror over there, it simply wasn't possible. I love all these people who join the service and then get upset for being sent to war (or "into this mess"). What the hell did you think would happen? <Now I'm speaking in general terms here> If you're afraid of going to war, the answer is simple, don't join the military. Otherwise, don't bitch about it when you do go. Nobody is forcing you to join the military. But if you do decide to join - whether it be Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, Navy, National Guard, whatever - you better know what you're getting into and be ready to face the fact that you may get called up to fight for your country. You're in for a rude awakening if you can't handle that.

this is a thing that politicians cant say because it it sounds too harsh, but is somthing we should remember. i have sympathy for our soldiers, because the job is tough, but also i keep in mind they volunteered to be a soldier, a killer, a fighter for their country. i have little sympathy for soldiers who whine about having to fight. you dont want to fight, dont get a job as a fighter.

Seven of my really good friends from high school joined the Marine Corps. All have been to either Iraqor Afganistan. Three of them had there college careers interupted by war. Two were wounded while overseas. None of them have ever complained. They did the jobs they signed up to do and put the rest of their lives on hold untill that job was done. They are soldiers in the truest since of the world, and I would hope they are representative of the average soldier.

no they dont. and neither do you or your friends.

and who says that my friends are not, and don't know the risks? each one of them is very proud to serve, and of what they do. in fact, i think it's more admirable to fight despite your feelings toward a particular circumstance.

if it were truly the role of the united states military to fight for freedom the world over, we'd be deployed in far more countries. i'm sorry, i just do not buy this. think of all the countries where citizens are oppressed. it's a hell of a lot more places than iraq and afghanistan. try practically the entire continent of africa. what about china? all of communist asia, for that matter? didn't we already try this about 30 years ago? remind me again how that turned out.

i would never disagree with this statement. however, there reality of it is that there is a whole helluva lot of sick, f'd up, unfair sh!t going on in the world. and it literally makes me sick to my stomach to think what so many millions of people go through on a daily basis. i just don't buy into the idea that WE alone can remedy it. there's entirely too much contempt for the US in these parts of the world. i'm not saying it's justified, that's just the way it is. if i honestly thought that iraq would not be doomed for subsequent turmoil upon our exit, i would not have such a problem with the invasion. i've already written about this in this thread, so i'm not going to repeat it.

he doesn’t seem to care much about whether or not they could do it, just that he is now having to do it. he has come to completely NOT care if they are free or not. he is constantly bogged down by a feeling of 'unaccomplishment'...i.e. that they're never making any progress.

sorry, but i can’t do that. i wish i could. i would first have to ask permission from him, and there’s no way in hell i’m bothering him with the request of displaying that as an exhibit on a damn internet forum to perpetuate war-arguing. he doesn't even like to talk about it person to person. his only release is his entries, and even in those he's recently stated that he doesn't like to talk about it.

I don't buy it. Vigorously opposed to a war and yet still proud of what they do? Seems hypocritical to me. But, I'm not going to sit here and argue with you, as we obviously will never see eye to eye on this issue. I have neither the time nor the patience.

Hey saltyone, we're headin out on a 15-miler tomorrow. I'm sure you don't miss THAT!!!

i must not understand what livejournal is. isnt it basically a blogging service for publishing your thoughts to the internet? not a smart place to put your personal secrets. in fact isnt the whole point of it to make your words public?
