to understand the declassification right of the president, its helpful to keep in mind he is the commander in chief. so for example if he wants to attack iran, and its secret, everyone on earth must keep it secret. except him. its his call, his decision. he is the commander, so its his decision if its secret. literally everyone on earth can go to jail for talking about except him. he can decide to go on TV and say "we are going to war with iran". things cannot be so secret that he cant discuss them. because he is the boss. so again, what is secret for everyone else is not secret for him. secret means nothing to him, by virtue of him being the president. so yes, the rules dont apply to him.
the operation to kill bin laden was very very secret. and yet obama announced it on national tv. do you understand why he was not arrested for that? do you think he filled out forms declassifying it so he could have a press conference?

Whataboutism. Obama has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Further, the national archives have vouched that Obama handled all his documentation and classification issues in a manner consistent with the laws regarding them. But it's really irrelevant because the issue at hand is what was Trump doing with classified documents? If he had truly declassified them then why were they still labeled as classified? Part of the declassification process is changing the classification on the document. Did they just forget? Why did the Trump people lie to the FBI about whether they had submitted all outstanding documentation? Why didn't they return all the documents when they had a chance? Why didn't Trump tell them he declassified the documents when they met earlier this year? Lastly, Trump said those documents were "planted" before he said he declassified them. Why? If they were planted, why does it matter whether he declassified them or not?
