Wow...this type of discussion absolutely KILLS me! I am amazed how many people out there truly want the best for LSU, but don't want to be responsible in any way for helping to pay for it. I used to be th biggest anti-TAF person there ever was. I screamed for things like accountability and open books. I found it deplorable that funds were focused only on revenue generating sports. I felt that TAF was an organization for fat cats & uber-politicos who had money to burn.

Then I did some homework. I learned that there is accountability. The books may not be open, but there is scrutiny over TAF finances from enough sources that nothing masive could be covered up. I learned that TAF built a lot more than just a new upper deck for football. TAF helped fundraise & pay for the academic center, the softball fields, meeting rooms, weight rooms & training facilities for ALL sports. In addition, TAF doesn't have to go through a tedious state bidding process to get things done.

Then there is Title IX. Yes, TAF can circumvent the rules of Title IX, but it only makes sense. If you spend $10M on football (a sport that brings in the lion's share of money), why shoudl you be forced to spend an equal $10M on women's soccer (a sport that loses money)? TAF has done more for women's sports than the athletic department. TAF gets around Title IX by making sense of it.

Now, if you don't want to donate, that is your right. If you don't want to be a member, that is your choice. However, I think that there shoudl be a $50 required donation to have tickets in DV. I think that seats in the lower bowl should be allocated fees accordingly. I think that just because you have had seats on the 50 since before Billy Cannon picked up a pigskin, it doesn;t give you a right to those seats for the same price I pay at the top of the SEZ.

Everyone is freaking out about how much it would cost & how TAF wants to assess $1000 per seat fees on the good seats. Do the math. If TAF had rights to every seat in the house, the wealth would be shared by all & cause lower fees by everyone.

DOO DAH LINK for a calculator that explains it all.

Are you serious? TAF probably has 100 times less scrutiny then Enron ever had. You can thank Louisiana's corruption reputation for all the skeptics. Sorry, and sad, but true.

Why are the books closed? I couldn't care less who donated what amount. I just want to know how much total came in, and how it was all spent (or saved).

finlly someone else whose elevator goes to the top

I cannot believe how many tiger "fans" are so ardently opposed to TAF. They totally, completely ignore the many positive things TAF has enabled LSU to build/accomplish.

Notice Hub's post totally overlooked the academic center. Hub - have you ever been to other SEC stadiums? Besides Ole Miss and Stankville? Those stadiums have plenty of "mystique." What's wrong with being better? What's wrong with being the best?

I want LSU to be the best and I want EVERYONE to pay for it. You don't want TAF to play a role in that, fine. Since you are a geneious - tell us why we do not need to upgrade facililities.

And where is the weight room in terms of priority for LSU? And the track stadium. I have not seen or heard these projects were even on the table until other pressing needs are taken care of. Red herrings are what those are.

Finding a method of financing what needs to be done will never be accomplished in a manner that suits everyone. Change is never easy and is rarely pretty. Bitch all you want about TAF, Hub - they are better fans and better supporters of LSU that you ever have been. They're winners - and they are committed to give our kids all they can to assure you the opportunity to to see a winner - in all LSU sports.

As Skip has said - there are fans and then there are supporters. Are you a fan or are you a supporter? LSU needs support.

You are starting to make this personal now MikeB so I'm stopping now before this goes any further. You don't know shit about what level of support i provide and shouldn't speculate.

It's simple you support TAF and beleive that if you spend more then you will be the best.

I disagree. spend where necessary. Make the powers that be be responsible and accountable for what they spend.....not this open checkbook they have been pushing. I think this is the way most organizations in this country operate....atleast the profitable ones.

Hope you get what you want........

The methods of fundraising dollars for University athletic clubs is changing quickly. Demand for SEC tickets puts the buyer at the mercy of the seller. The amount of money that can be raised for season tickets annually keeps increasing forcing out a segment of the fan base with limited disposable income. Loyal fans are being forgotten and are replaced by contributors with more wealth.

However, at South Carolina, facilities have been upgraded (stadium expansion, new basketball arena, new multi-million dollar athletic training facility, potential new baseball stadium, we hired Lou Holtz) and the football team went 5 - 7 last season and didn't make a bowl.
