Exactly, and we have our work cut out for us on Montgomery and Myles IMO.

Tahj Jones is said to be exactly the type of LB Chavis loves hence the reason he got a visit on the 1st day Chavis went out recruiting.

I agree there is still a lot of work to do with Montgomery and Myles. I like our chances with Montgomery, while Myles is more of a true toss up. I think he may end up at Tennessee.

Good point about Jones. He is a small, very quick LB. Like Reynoch Thompson and Al Wilson. Both were smaller in size, but used speed.

Singleton visiting this weekend and word is don't be surprised if he commits this weekend.

I just don't understand the move by the coaching staff to add a 2nd FB to an otherwise too tight class.

I think we need Singleton more than we need Johns, although admittedly Johns may be a greyshirt.

Do we need Singleton more than Montgomery and Myles? They are most likely going to be commits #25 and #26 (if they commit) in this class, in which a player already committed would be forced to greyshirt.

What if both commit to LSU?

The numbers are crazy crazy tight.

I will be floored to hear Singleton was offered and has accepted a scholarship for the 2009 season.

:geaux: According to the Dandy One today, Singleton is expected to change his commitment from Tulsa to LSU on his visit. He also says Tadj Jones to Prep School and Johns a Greyshirt. I would have rather had Singleton than Johns or Jonathan Davis over Johns. I'll trust the coaching staff on their evaluations though. They must see potential in Johns they really like. Anyway, with the tight numbers it makes you wonder about the status of Montgomery and Myles, etc. I do seem to remember reading on another thread somewhere somebody saying that LSU would possibly oversign in this class. Is that what's going on here?Interesting developments to say the least. :LSU231:

Well yes it's no secret we are oversigning and I don't have a problem with that. It does mean however that certain players will have to take a greyshirt. Guys like Johns and TJones are content with it, then everyone is happy. No problem there. The problem I have with Singleton is if he gets a scholarship for 09, there is a great chance that will result in someone who is already committed on this team to be forced to greyshirt instead.

That's where I say it does not make sense to take another FB at the expense of another player you already told was good for 2009 that now he has to greyshirt. Maybe the coaching staff has already warned a player like Claiborne and Barrow that it is a possibility when they committed. I don't know.

    I hope that makes sense.

Bottom line, it sure isn't easy to juggle these numbers down the home stretch of recruiting. I applaud the coaching staff for being able to do so. I just think in this circumstance, it is not warranted to offer Singleton a scholarship for 2009.

I certainly don't want to see 4 greyshirts either, putting us 4 in the hole going into 2010 recruiting. The numbers are almost as tight with 15 seniors in 2009 vs the 13 we had this year.

    Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton

While we have a great class, our expectations have run too high regarding the Seminole trio, a certain DT from Michigan, and others. IMO the offering of some of these lesser tier players including the recent greyshirt possibility is not a great sign. Too me it means that we don't feel very confident that we can get all of the highly coveted players we want. It is very difficult to pry great players away from their home states. Especially if those home states have decent football programs. Our recent BCS titles have certainly helped make some inroads, but when you count the recruits at the end of NSD they usually look very similar geographically every year.

:geaux: I hear ya. Agree there could be some real problems telling a kid he needs to greyshirt after telling him earlier that he had a scholly for '09. I'd be pi$$ed if I was in that situation. As you say, we'll have to wait and see what shakes out with this. :LSU231:

Yes, maybe the coaching staff thinks we will lose out on Montgomery, Myles, Sua'Filo, Kelly and JJones.

Now Singleton becomes recruit #25. We still have Logan to consider, and we aren't so sure that a greyshirt will be enough to land him. That's still up for debate.
