Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton His decision came as a surprise and a disappointment. I was pretty confident LSU would land him.
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton I can't say I blame him. He's taking his shot! I respect his determination and I hope he becomes the Matt Forte of Tulsa. Best of luck, Alex.
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton I think a lot of people share your sentiment that FB is not a priority considering the elite talent we are after at other positions. I don't see Ridley ending up at FB though after watching him in last week's game because he looks too small. I agree that we don't use a traditional FB that much and someone like Scott could play a dual role in situations just as Hester did. I suppose we need someone to replace Quinn Johnson though when he leaves. I think a blocking TE could be converted with no problem for that role if we have no other alternative.
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton You should tell the coaching staff that. They seemed to differ and maybe could benefit from your wisdom... :rolleye33:
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton Looks like we are back in the mix for Alex. We were gaining some steam the weeks leading up to the Peach Bowl and then Malzahn left Tulsa and took the OC job at Auburn. He will take an official to LSU next weekend and we will visit him in-home the following week. I would love to have him because we only have one true FB on our team and his is not on campus yet either.(Allen)
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton This surprises me. Unless our Allen is wavering and we think we will lose him to Kiffin I don't see why we would want another fullback. Plus, I thought the reason Singleton went to Tulsa was because he didn't want to play FB, but wanted a chance to carry the rock. I can't see us signing Singleton unless we lose Allen. Even if we lost the big back from Texas I don't think Singleton would be an option to replace him at RB.
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton Check out the depth chart because there is still a big need for a FB even with Allen. If Allen goes down, where does that leave us? Allen is very firm to LSU from all sources I have heard from. He did and still does want a chance to run the ball but when he visited LSU during bowl preparations he started having 2nd thoughts and when the guy he was closest to at Tulsa left that opened him up. He is still being told by coaches he would be a Hester type back and he was used in a similar role his senior season and had better numbers as a hybrid. Point is, it is weighing on his mind and he will give LSU another shot to persuade him on how we will use him.
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton I don't know about this one. Allen is firm. I think we need to keep Singleton in the mix just in case Allen begins to waiver. As soon as we KNOW Allen is ours, then we should let Singleton go. Stevan Ridley is another great option at FB. Pratt could be used in that instance as well at 6'2" 230 lbs. We do not need to recruit 2 FBs in this class.
Re: RB/FB Alex Singleton I think anyway you draw this one up, it's a bad take if we need scholarships still. Some of the guys that we were supposed to get didn't end up falling our way, so it's possible that they're going to start trying to use the scholarships while there are still good players out there, but this just seems like a waste. Allen appears to be completely solid, and for other options at FB incase he goes down we have Ridley and don't forget Kellen Theriot is a possibility at FB. I think we're adequate at the position, but with no consequences, between having him and not having him, i'd rather have him.
